In the first round of the Germany Cup, current Cup and Bundesliga winner Bayer Leverkusen had an easy task – to defeat the fourth league club Jena. The task was fulfilled but much harder than anybody thought as Xabi Alonso‘s men won 1-0 after a hard battle. But in the second round, Bayer played totally opposite and easily went to the third round of the Cup with a 3-0 win over second-tier Elversberg. The starting 11 was not so different from the one which playing against Jena, apart from former Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka who played tonight, as well as two Africans: Edmond Tapsoba and Nathan Tella. The Nigerian even recorded an assist to Patrik Schick, who scored the brace within the first 10 minutes of the game.⚽️GOAL🇩🇪 | Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 Elversberg | Patrik SchickAssist by Tellapic.twitter.com/55kQoFrGzi— Goals Xtra (@GoalsXtra) October 29, 2024 ⚽️GOAL🇩🇪 | Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 Elversberg | Patrik SchickSchick brace in 9 minutespic.twitter.com/ipqJA1qcid— Goals Xtra (@GoalsXtra) October 29, 2024 Considering that the Nigerian striker Victor Boniface is the undisputed number 1 striker, The Czech forward is reduced to the Cup games and as a substitute in Bundesliga. He used his chances perfectly in the second and ninth minute of the game when the guests were still unprepared. Those two quick goals basically resolved the game and when the newcomer Aleix Garcia sent a thunderbolt into the top right corner for 3-0 after 36 minutes, the disaster was on the horizon. Instead, the host didn‘t want to push further more, but created chances which the visiting keeper Nicolas Kristof saved. Those three goals were enough not only for the win, but also for the continuation of the longest streak in the competition – Leverkusen have scored in each of their last 33 cup games and also kept clean sheets in their last three – the Werkself’s best run for nine years. With this win, the numbers are now set to 34 and four.Wonderful freekick goal by Aleix GarcíaBayer Leverkusen 3-0 Elversbergpic.twitter.com/56WM8udeMu— Goals Xtra (@GoalsXtra) October 29, 2024 DFB POKAL – GERMAN CUPRound of 32Tuesday Augsburg – Schalke 3-0 (1-0)/Claude-Maurice 26, Maier 87, Essende 90/K.Offenbach – Karlsruher 0-2 (0-2)/Zivzivadze 61, Beifus 72/Leverkusen – Elversberg 3-0 (3-0)/Schick 2,9, Garcia 36/RB Leipzig – St.Pauli 4-2 (3-1)/Baumgartner 17, Poulsen 12, 30, Nusa 80 – Guilavougi 28, Smith 58/22.45: (3.30) Jahn Regensburg (3.50) Greuther Furth (2.15)22.45: (1.75) Koln (3.80) Holstein Kiel (4.60)22.45: (1.22) Stuttgart (7.00) K’lautern (11.0)22.45: (3.30) Wolfsburg (3.50) Dortmund (2.15)Wednesday 20.00: (1.80) Eintr.Frankfurt (4.20) M’ gladbach (3.80)20.00: (1.50) Freiburg (4.20) Hamburger (5.50)20.00: (2.95) Hertha (3.50) Heidenheim (2.35)20.00: (3.15) Paderborn (3.60) Werder (2.20)22.45: (5.40) Bielefeld (3.70) Union Berlin (1.60)22.45: (2.50) Dinamo Dresden (3.45) Darmstadt (2.75)22.45: (1.40) Hoffenheim (4.80) Nurnberg (7.75)22.45: (9.00) Mainz (5.90) Bayern (1.30)***odds are subject to change***
