Enrique happy to extend at PSG

When a Christophe Galtier experiment failed in 2023, Paris Saint Germain decided to find a new coach. Former Lille and Saint Etienne boss worked closely with sporting director Luis Campos who decided to bring him in. He won Trophee des Champions and the French domestic title during his time in the capital but did not deliver in the Champions League. So, the Portuguese executive had to sacrifice his friend and look for another manager. And so it seems, he struck gold in his second attempt. After appointing Luis Enrique, PSG continued on its winning path, failed to win the Champions League (again), but decided they like Luis Enrique so much, that they want to give him a new contract. And it seems that the Spaniard is fine with it.Enrique: ‘Barca play like Eibar, Mbappe doesn‘t defend‘When appointed in June 2023, Enrique was not the first man for the job. The Parisians first look at another coaches, especially former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann but an agreement could not be struck. So, he was the second choice (at best), coming after a rough World Cup, where Spain was among the favorites to win and yet he went out in the round of 16, after a shocking defeat from Morocco. But PSG ‘struck marriage‘ with the Spaniard, but also changed their mindset that the Champions League must be won within a season or two and so far, it works excellent. When asked about his future, (contract is up in June 2025) ahead of game with Lens, Luis Enrique gave an indirect answer, talking about Luis Campos instead of PSG.“With Luis, I have daily contact, if we don’t see each other physically, we are in contact by phone, otherwise in person. I started this position by talking with him. I don’t know what the future will be like but I would like this future to be written with Luis Campos and his entire team. I have no doubt about that“ said Enrique.Young blood PSG defender blending in perfectly with his experienced mentorThe thing which also helped the Spaniard a lot was the decision to turn to the most promising youth players instead of nurturing Kylian Mbappe, who eventually went to Real as a free agent. So, with fresh, young and existing players and future French stars like Bradley Barcola, Waren Zaire-Emery and Desire Doue, accompanied with Portuguese (Joao Neves, Goncalo Ramos) and Spanish talents (Fabian Ruiz), this team is poised to do great things. According to the reports, Enrique has also settled very well in Paris and is enjoying being PSG coach.”I’ve felt very good since the first day I arrived. This season is different because some players have left and we’ve been able to bring others in. I feel more comfortable this season because I know all the parts of this club. I hope to continue like this” he admitted. It looks that contract extension is just a matter of time.LIGUE 1 – MATCHDAYFriday Monaco – Angers 0-1 (0-1)/Aholou 29/Lille – Olympique Lyon 1-1 (1-0)/David 17 – Fofana 90+1/Saturday 19.00: (1.50) PSG (4.50) Lens (7.25)21.00: (2.70) Brest (3.05) Nice (2.80)23.00: (3.90) Saint-Etienne (3.50) Strasbourg (1.95)Sunday 17.00: (2.10) Toulouse (3.50) Reims (3.80)19.00: (3.60) Auxerre (3.65) Rennes (2.10)19.00: (2.30) Le Havre (3.50) Montpellier (3.30)22.45: (3.90) Nantes (3.50) Olympique Marseille (2.05)***odds are subject to change***
