Zimbabwe coach hoping to field lethal striker against Harambee Stars

Zimbabwe national team head coach Michael Nees has confirmed that talks, to convince former striker Knowledge Musona to pull out of retirement ahead of their clash with Harambee Stars, are at an advanced stage.Musona announced his retirement from national team duties in May 2022 but it appears that the 34-year-old could be persuaded to rescind his decision ahead of clash with Kenya.Zimbabwe will host Stars on 15 November in South Africa where a draw will be enough to guarantee them a place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals at the expense of Kenya. ##NAJAVA_MECA_8466551##The two sides labored for a barren draw in the first leg staged at the Mandela Stadium in Namboole, Uganda with Yanga forward Prince Dube leading the Zimbabwean forward line. Nees confirmed that he had been in contact with Musona for almost two months but the former Kaizer Chiefs man was yet to make up his mind. Kenyan goalkeeper inches closer to maiden silverware in South Africa“I am in contact with Knowledge (Musona), already two months now, but the moment must be right,” said the German in an interview with the Sunday Mail. Calls for Musona to make a return to the Warriors grew louder after midfielder Khama Billiat made a similar decision before the start of the qualifiers in September. The former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder reconsidered his decision in August after successful talks with Nees and following his impressive form in the domestic league. Harambee Stars dumped out of CHAN qualifiers after draw with South SudanBilliat has so far played a crucial role in Zimbabwe’s superb run for the ticket to the AFCON and will be heavily relied on in the final two rounds where Zimbabwe will be seeking for a point so as to qualify. Statistics show that Musona has scored 24 goals for the Warriors in the 49 appearances made in 12 years.
