Bandari goalkeeper James Omusinde is thrilled to have kept a clean sheet in his first competitive match since recovering from a life-threatening injury that left him in a coma for three days.Omusinde was in between the sticks as the Dockers humbled record champions Gor Mahia 2-0 on Wednesday in Ukunda, in a match marred with fan trouble.The game was his first since suffering a nasty head injury on 21 December last year while in action against Kariobangi Sharks at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.Omusinde was in FC Talanta’s books back then, and picked up the injury after colliding with an opponent while vying for an aerial ball.##NAJAVA_MECA_8486562##So grave was the injury that he remained in a coma for three days at the Fedha-based Summit Orthopedic and Surgical Hospital’s High Dependency Unit.He was transferred to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) after waking up from the coma and was admitted to the facility for more than two weeks.Initially, there were fears that the shotstopper would be forced to early retirement after surgery was recommended, but he pulled through and resumed training after three months.Omusinde ditched Talanta for Bandari before the start of the season and had to wait until Wednesday for his debut on the coastal side for the season.Bandari dealt massive blow with captain’s long layoffHe terms the game against Gor as the best in his budding career and hopes to build on the performance and help the club preserve the solid start.Bandari have conceded a single goal in the five league rounds played so far.“That was the best game I have ever played in my life. It was an amazing experience to be on the pitch again and to keep a clean sheet against a big team. It was humbling at the same time considering that I had been out for a long time. I remain grateful to everyone who offered any form of assistance from the time I suffered the injury and walked with me throughout the recovery process. I can only hope for more minutes and clean sheets going forward,” he said.Kitui Court halts FKF county electionsMeanwhile, the former Nunguni Yulu FC goalkeeper revealed how he managed to return to competitive football despite the initial doubts expressed by medics.Omusinde disclosed that doctors who attended him were uncertain whether he would play football again but later cleared him after ticking all the boxes right.“The doctors had doubts on my return to competitive football, but I was determined to carry on with what I love most. I was positive about it as soon as I woke up. My family, colleagues, and the team were supportive, and this helped a lot,” he added.
