When Barcelona humiliated Real Madrid 4-0 at Santiago Bernabeu on October 27th 2024, the gap between two Spanish giants was six points. Just one month later, the gap is only four points, but Real has two games less than their Catalan rival and suddenly, Hansi Flick is on the hot seat. His team failed to win in two consecutive matches (one loss one draw) and today they embarresed themselves once more, this time at home to relegation strugglers: Barcelona – Las Palmas 1-2.Just after a gala celebration due to the club’s 125th anniversary, the Catalans got a slap in the face from a team which hasn’t won against Barcelona in Catalonya in the last 53 years! The Spanish media were talking that Barca cannot win with Lamine Yamal in the starting lineup (missed two games due to injury), but the 17-year old played the whole second half of the game and they still couldn’t prevent a defeat. Las Palmas defended with passion and discipline and then scored two blitzkrieg goals against a high defensive line of the hosts. They needed only five touches from their own penalty area to score the first and only one pass to score the winning goal!In the weak first half we saw one really good opportunity. Raphinha, who was the captain in this game finally managed to break down the right flank, pass two Las Palmas defenders and take a proper shot, but the ball hit the bar. Apart from that, Gavi scored a goal which was overrulled due to offside. Everything else was not worth mentioning. The second half started with Yamal’s entrance but that event was quickly overshadowed by the shocking Las Palmas lead. The guests took the ball in their own penalty area and in just five touches managed to score a stunner and take the lead. Hansi Flick used all of his five substitutions in the 56th minute already. Jules Koundé came out for Hector Fort, Fermin Lopez for Frenkie de Jong and Gavi for Ferran Torres.Barca started to attack furiously and Raphinha equalized with a stunner in the 61st minute. The home crowd thought that this was the beginning of a turnaround and they were right, but they were thinking about a wrong team. It was Las Palmas who took the lead again, and again it was in a spectacular fashion. Munoz had the ball near the touchline at his own half and passed the ball to Fabio Silva, who beat Fort (who subbed Kounde) and scored the second goal for Las Palmas.
