Date for when Nyayo Stadium will be CHAN-ready revealed

Nyayo National Stadium will be ready to host the 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN) between 5 and 10 January 2025, as per Sports Permanent Secretary Peter Tum.Tum was speaking during Monday’s key meeting with the competition’s multi-agency team (Local Organising Committee), where he said that the technical working group mandated to oversee preparations was working within the anticipated period, and was confident that they would deliver the venue on time.##NAJAVA_MECA_8586380##The meeting, set to go through the roles and responsibilities of every working group, saw Tum, accompanied by Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed, do a round of inspection visits at Nyayo and Kasarani Stadium, where they followed up on several infrastructural progresses. The visit came just three days after Confederation of African Football Dr. Patrice Motsepe had conducted inspections on host venues and training grounds, after which he gave a vote of confidence despite acknowledging that the country’s preparations had faced significant challenges.Motsepe confident of Kenya’s readiness to host CHAN, admits challenges hampering progress“We have gone around and I must say that we are within that period that we had anticipated,” Tum said about Nyayo Stadium. “At the end of about five to ten days after January, all this place will be free to host the games.”The PS said that the key areas promised to Motsepe – field, changing rooms and floodlights – were on the “right track”, adding that erection of floodlights had begun, and should be working when the time comes around for CHAN.Tum said that works at both Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium would go on during the holiday break saying: “This team has been guided appropriately, there is no holiday for them save for December 25th. On 26th, they will be here and ensuring that what we promised to CAF has been done to their satisfaction.”LOC Chair Nicholas Musonye on the other hand said there were lots of changes from the time Motsepe visited the country.“You can see that though the work is still being done, the pitch looks like it can be used,” Musonye said. “The dressing rooms are virtually ready and teams can use them.“On floodlights, we are doing everything possible to make sure that they will be working by the first week of January. We are confident that we will overcome all challenges, honor our part, and deliver the championships.”
