National team Harambee Stars’ plan and preparations for the African Nation Championships (CHAN) have been revealed by FKF President Hussein Mohammed.Kenya will be participating in the continental tournament by virtue of being a host country, alongside neighbours Tanzania and Uganda.On Monday 23 December, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for 2024 CHAN and 2027 AFCON held a meeting to discuss the country’s preparation for the tournament.Date for when Nyayo Stadium will be CHAN-ready revealedThe FKF President thereafter had an inspection tour of Nyayo Stadium alongside Sports PS Peter Tum and LOC Chairperson Nicholas Musonye, after which he revealed the national team’s plan.“As a federation, even as the infrastructure is being developed, we are going to focus our efforts on the national team, so that we do not just participate for the sake of participating,” Mohammed noted. “We should be able to put up a good show for Kenyans, the region and the entire continent.”The first order of business in the plan, as per Mohammed, is to hire a new coach and constitute a technical bench after the resignation of Engin Firat.Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat resigns“My team and I are working round the clock to ensure that we have the technical bench ready as quickly as possible, and that the team gets everything that is required to prepare adequately,” said Mohammed.The FKF honcho also confirmed the participation of Harambee Stars in the special edition of Mapinduzi Cup that will take place from Friday 3 January 2025 to Tuesday 14 January 2025.“We will be starting off with the Mapinduzi cup early in January and from there, we will know how to prepare the team further. “They (Harambee Stars) will be going to camp shortly thereafter so that we give the team a decent chance to compete with the rest of the continent,” he added.##NAJAVA_MECA_8586415##The Extreme Sports CEO also registered his appreciation to the government on the renovations going on in various stadiums in the country that will serve as venues and training grounds for the tournament“I want to congratulate the government for the incredible job that is going on on all sites in preparation for CHAN that is coming up soon. We are quite happy with the progress,” he concluded.CHAN will take place from Saturday 1 February 2025 to Friday 28 February 2025 across the three East African countries.
