Three Kenyan referees picked for CHAN duty

Three Kenyan referees have been selected to officiate at this year’s African Nations Championships (CHAN) tournament to be held in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.The three were selected after undergoing a pre-tournament training and evaluation course held in Cairo from 4-9 December 2024 in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.Two Kenyan referees in line to referee in 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN)They include: Dickens Mimisa – center referee, Peter Waweru Kamaku- center referee/VAR, and Samuel Kuria – assistant referee.For Mimisa, this is a big achievement and proof of his progress.Last season, he was named Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) Referee of the Year.In August, he was appointed as center referee for a Confederations Cup match between Nsingizini Hotspurs FC (Eswatini) and Stellenbosch FC (South Africa).He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).Kuria, on the other hand, has been a fast rising assistant referee who was accredited by world governing FIFA in 2022.Kamaku, a Mathematics lecturer at JKUAT, is one of the most experienced Kenyan referees.Waweru among three Kenyan referees selected for AFCON preparatory courseHe was a VAR referee in the last CHAN held in Algeria in 2021.The appointed match officials were part of 25 center referees and 22 assistant referees who attended the CAF organized five-day course which equipped them with updated knowledge and trained on the latest rules and refereeing technology.Another 10 Video Assistant Referees (VAR) also attended the course.##NAJAVA_MECA_8609926##Apart from the three Kenyans, Tanzania and Uganda, who alongside Kenya will host the tournament, have one referee.Elsewhere, while Kenya is still lagging behind in completing stadiums to host the tournament, Uganda has sent out an appeal for members of the public to apply to work as stewards during the one-month tournament.In an announcement on their website, Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) said the stewards will form part of the critical manpower needed during the month-long tournament.The federation said female stewards are highly encouraged to apply.Harambee Stars begin Mapinduzi Cup quest against Burkina Faso
