Sports Kenya Director General leaves post after six years

Sports Kenya Director General Pius Metto has left the organization after completing his two-term limit at the helm.Metto handed over to his successor, Gabriel Komora, who until Tuesday was the Deputy Director General.##NAJAVA_MECA_8618361##Metto’s departure comes a few months after reports surfaced that he was seeking a third term, which would have been against the regulations governing Sports Kenya.He was first appointed in 2019, and his contract was renewed in 2022.Regulations governing the organization state that “the Director General shall hold office for a term of three years, renewable only once, and on such terms and conditions of employment as Sports Kenya may determine.”Metto, however, denied that he had requested a third term, pointing out that he had, in fact, written to the Sports Kenya board, informing them about the expiry of his contract in January.The outgoing Director General expressed pride in his achievements at Sports Kenya and leaves with his head held high.“During my tenure, we have tremendously improved the state of our stadia, and the ongoing work will ensure the country has adequate facilities to host major international events,” he said.Kimanzi’s tactical masterclass that earned Harambee Stars victory over TanzaniaMetto further stated that he had streamlined processes at the parastatal to ensure smooth operations.He succeeded former Sports Commissioner Gordon Oluoch, who held the position for two years in an acting capacity.
