This is not Borussia‘s season. In fact, this is the worst season for Dortmund in the last 10 years, if we look the number of points scored in the first half of the season. Rookie coach Nuri Sahin came during the last season as a member of Edin Terzić‘s coaching staff and was promoted to the head coach when Terzić resigned. But he made look Borussia worse. The Millionaires are still strong at home against the famous Yellow Wall, but since the beginning of the season, they managed only one away win! So, when 1700 fans started a long journey to the deep north of Germany, they believed that a win against small Kiel, who is currently in the 17th place and has the worst defense in Bundesliga is a sure thing. But totally opposite happened – the relegation struggling team defeated Bundesliga giant 4-2.⚽️ GOAL: Phil Harres🇩🇪 Holstein Kiel 2-0 Borussia Dortmundpic.twitter.com/kexvmrXwV5— Goals Xtra (@GoalsXtra) January 14, 2025 HOLSTEIN KIEL 3-0 BORUSSIA DORTMUND ⚽ 45+5′ Alexander Bernhardsson (#KSV)🅰️ Phil Harres #Bundesliga pic.twitter.com/tUtzna7sWZ— Live Goal Hub (@LiveGoalHub) January 14, 2025 Sahin was already on the brink of sack during the end of 2024, but the management decided to stick with him after all. But his first game after the break showed that the team didn‘t improve, but regressed instead. This was probably the worst performance since the beginning of the season, when the team was new and new players had to ‘click‘ but in January, they are playing worse and it‘s all down to Sahin. Will he survive this embarrassing defeat is the question for Borussia‘s president, who was protecting him all the way. The game finished 4-2 but Kiel was leading 3-0 after the first half and had numerous chances to score even more. The fact that Borussia created the first chance in the 67th minute says it all. Dortmund managed to score two goals due to luck and opponents mistakes (they are the worst defense in the league after all), and even had a chance for the leveler when Holtby got the red card, but the hosts managed the fourth goal from the counter attack in the last minute of the game instead. BVB are in eight place, with five points less than Leipzig, who holds the last position for the Champions League and has a game in hand.⚽️ GOAL: Jann-Fiete Arp🇩🇪 Holstein Kiel 4-2 Borussia Dortmund pic.twitter.com/5NCDlgJtt3— Football News 247 (@Foot_Tv247) January 14, 2025 Holstein Kiel 3-[1] Dortmund – Reyna 71′ #HSVBVB #HolsteinKielDortmund #Reyna #Bundesliga pic.twitter.com/rnKrAGBAtQ— Goal & Ita (@FranchiniI47764) January 14, 2025 Holstein Kiel 3-[2] Dortmund – Gittens 77’#HSVBVB #HolsteinKielDortmund #Gittens #Bundesliga pic.twitter.com/fOv57ynDJL— Goal & Ita (@FranchiniI47764) January 14, 2025 After 30 minutes of the game it was 2-0 for Kiel already and the half finished with three goals in the visitor‘s net and in reality it should have been five. The guests were horrible and didn‘t even get near Kiel‘s goal, while the hosts punished many Dortmund‘s defensive mistakes and scored goals. First was a mistake from Julian Brant, Emre Can allowed the second one and Sabitzer lost the ball after which the host scored the third. Sahin made four changes but only in the 67th minute did Guirassy had a first opportunity for Borussia. Finally Reyna managed to score after a great shot from the edge of the penalty area before Gittens gave hope to the away fans after a great lob (with a help from Kiel player‘s leg). But in the last attack of the game, keeper Kobel came forward into the Kiel‘s penalty area trying to score a goal and when that corner failed, Arp easily put the ball into Borussia‘s empty net for the final 4-2.
