Barcelona score five goals against Real…. again

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick praised his team’s good form at the start of 2025 with three wins but stressed the need for continuity. The German coach felt a need to send a warning against complecity to his players after a fantastic 5-2 win over rivals Real Madrid. After all, the Catalans got a tricky opponent in the Spanish Cup – La Liga‘s Betis, and not some fourth-tier team. Before the start, Betis players made a corridor for Barcelona after winning the Spanish Super Cup. Some 35,000 spectators were present at the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona and Ronald Araújo showed off the trophy to the home fans. And when the game started, Barcelona players pretended that Real Betis was Real Madrid and showed the same kind of display with almost the same result: Barcelona – Betis 5-1.Insane goal by Kounde, but look at that Lamine Yamal assist, he ain’t normal 😭😭pic.twitter.com/k65Nmf8R4L— Anabella💙❤ (@AnabellaMarvy) January 15, 2025 Lamine Yamal what a goal😍 pic.twitter.com/IwBnX3xSrk— Lamine Yamal Xtra (@Yamal_Xtra) January 15, 2025 The Catalans have beaten Betis in five of their nine knockout matches in the competition, and they continued this tradition tonight. Barcelona looks as the same team which started the season: quick, aggressive, lethal and Betis wasn‘t a worthy opponent at all, even thou Flick made five changes. Szczęsny, Iñigo Martínez, Balde, Casadó and Lewandowski didn‘t start the game. Iñaki Peña was on goal, Araújo in the centre of defence, youth player Gerard Martín at left-back, De Jong in midfield and Dani Olmo in attack instead. But it didn‘t matter, they all played good and what‘s more important, Lamine Yamal and Raphinha were in the starting 11 and both players continued their scoring spree. Both players scored a goal each and the Brazilian winger was also denied one goal due to VAR.❗️58′ – GOAL! Coach Hansi Flick promptly substituted him to conserve his energy, having already boosted his confidence to the maximum. The commanding lead early in the match allowed Flick to rest his key players. Before Jamal, Raphinha and Ronald Araújo were given breaks, followed by Gavi and Pedri. The substitutes ensured their absence wasn’t felt too strongly. Ferran Torres scored in the 67th minute with a spectacular assist from Dani Olmo, while López, in the final stages, seamlessly connected the midfield and set up Jamal’s goal. Real Betis offered little in attack but managed to score from an innocuous situation in Barcelona’s penalty area. However, Jules Koundé clumsily stepped on Jesús Rodríguez, allowing Vítor Roque to score a consolation goal from the penalty spot for his thoroughly outplayed team.COPA DEL REY – ROUND OF 16TuesdayOurense – Valencia 0-2 (0-0)/Carmona 50 og, Sadiq 78/WednesdayAlmeria – Leganes 2-3 (1-1)/Suarez 38, Lazaro 52 – Altimira 33, Fuente 76(p), Garcia 86/Pontevedra – Getafe 0-1 (0-1)/Rodriguez 2/Barcelona – Betis 5-0 (2-0)/Gavi 3, Kounde 27, Raphinha 58, Torres 67, Yamal 75/23:30: (4.80) Elche (3.85) Atl.Madrid (1.73)Thursday21:30: (1.55) Ath.Bilbao (3.90) Osasuna (6.75)21:30: (1.65) Sociedad (3.60) Rayo Vallecano (6.00)23:30: (1.35) Real Madrid (5.30) Celta (8.00)***odds are subject to change***
