Kenya working round the clock to complete stadia despite CHAN postponement

Sports Kenya has allayed fears of slowing down renovation works after the postponement of the Africa Nations Champions (CHAN) in August. The tournament was supposed to be held from February 1-28 in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania but was postponed due to, among other reasons, that facilities were not yet complete.According to Sports Kenya Acting Director General Gabriel Komora, the renovation works are continuing at the same pace.##NAJAVA_MECA_8644652##“Our focus was actually on the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations finals, and CHAN just came in as a by the way. We will continue as planned, and the postponement has even given us more time to complete some work ahead of time,” he said.He cited the roof at Kasarani Stadium as one of the works he says will be finished before August. “Initially we were to play CHAN with an incomplete roof, but with the postponement we will ensure it is finished, and when the tournament is played we shall have it ready. We were also importing some equipment, and it means we shall now have time to lay use to them,” he added.BREAKING: CHAN 2024 has been postponed to August because more works needs to be done on infrastructure and facilities in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania pic.twitter.com/fM5U7pAub7— Eric Njiru ⚽️ (@EricNjiiru) January 14, 2025 Komora was non-committal on whether local teams will be allowed to use the renovated stadiums before the CHAN tournament, pointing out that it has not been decided yet.“We understand that many teams do not have stadiums, but no decision has been made to allow them to use the facilities before CHAN.
