Arsenal secure a top eight place in the Champions League

Before tonight‘s game with Dinamo Zagreb, Arsenal fans were looking at the Champions League table which was quite odd, as only three points were separating fifth-placed Arsenal and 21st-placed Stuttgart. But the calculation was clear – win at the Emirates and you will all but secure a place in the Top 8, which means no playoff football in Europe in February. And Mikel Arteta‘s men did just that, scoring 500th goal under the Spaniard in the process with an easy 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb.Achievement unlocked: 500 goals under Mikel Arteta 🔓 pic.twitter.com/mzUU1koxp5— Arsenal (@Arsenal) January 22, 2025 ARSENAL VS DINAMO ZAGREBLIGA CHAMPION DECLAN RICE1:45What a goal…😱 pic.twitter.com/cJmxfR8kpu— MASBUNG (@xxxaryadi) January 22, 2025 The win was easy, as the guests failed to register a single shot on target. In fact, the Croatian side managed only five shots altogether and that‘s not enough to win against a second-tier club, yet alone Arsenal. The game was not so interesting and lacked chances, but the Gunners used their ones, and played with 90% power. Considering that Arsenal will play five games in January, Mikel Arteta decided to rotate player in the third match this month, so Kiwior, Zinchenko, Timber and Jorginho were introduced, but still the guests couldn‘t score a single goal.🚨🇪🇺 GOAL | Arsenal 2-0 Dinamo Zagreb | HavertzHAVERTZ DOUBLES THE LEAD FOR ARSENAL !!!!!!!!pic.twitter.com/tUhMp1mJcr— Tekkers Foot (@tekkersfoot) January 22, 2025 The whole Emirates stadium thought that this game will be a great one, with lots of goals, considering the fact that the Gunners scored after only two minutes, but in reality, nothing serious happened in the next 43 minutes. Declan Rice scored superbly after an action started by Martinelli, who broke down the left and found Havertz with a cross in the Dinamo area. He superbly cushioned the ball back into the path of Rice, who lashed an unstoppable volley into the back of the net. But, from that moment one, there were almost no chances as Arsenal had a clear advantage on the pitch, but not much to show for it. It was almost half an hour later when the home team created another chance. It was Martinelli again, who carried the ball over 50 meters and into the Dinamo area where Mmaee’s last-ditch sliding tackle denied from scoring a great solo-goal. Two minutes before the end Sterling passed the ball to Odegaard who assisted to Martinelli, but his shot went straight into the keeper Nevistic.🚨🇪🇺 GOAL | Arsenal 3-0 Dinamo Zagreb | OdegaardODEGAARD MAKES IT THREE !!!!!!!!!!pic.twitter.com/1MluTdPJUr— Tekkers Foot (@tekkersfoot) January 22, 2025 Second half was basically the same, as the home team created a few chances but scored two goals. Martinelli provided the perfect ball from the left to Havertz in the 66th minute and the game was settled right there. Nwaneri came in and created an opportunity for Rice in the 77th minute, but he failed to score a brace tonight. Trossard came as a sub and was involved in an injury-time goal scored by Odegaard.UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUND 7TuesdayMonaco – Aston Villa 1-0 (1-0)/Singo 8/Atalanta – Sturm Graz 5-0 (1-0)/Retegui 12, Pasalic 58, De Ketelaere 63, Lookman 90, Brescianini 90+5/Atletico Madrid – Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 (0-1)/Alvarez 52, 90 – Hincapie 45+1/Benfica – Barcelona 4-5 (3-1)/Pavlidis 2, 22, 30 pen, Araujo 68 og – Lewandowski 13 pen, 78 pen, Raphinha 64, 90+6, Garcia 86/Bologna – Borussia Dortmund 2-1 (0-1/Dallinga 71, Junior 72 – Guirassy 15 pen/Club Brugge – Juventus 0-0Crvena zvezda – PSV 2-3 (0-3)/Ndiaye 71, Djiga 78 – De Jong 17, Til 23, Flamingo 43/Liverpool – Lille 2-1 (1-0)/Salah 34, Elliot 67 – David 62/Slovan Bratislava – Stuttgart 1-3 (0-2)/Metsoko 85 – Leweling 11,34, Rieder 87/WednesdayLeipzig – Sporting 2-1 (1-0)/Sesko 19, Poulsen 78 – Gyokeres 75/Shakhtar – Brest 2-0 (2-0)/Kevin 18, Sudakov 37/Sparta Praha – Inter 0-1 (0-1)/Martinez 12/Arsenal – Dinamo Zagreb 3-0 (1-0)/Rice 2, Havertz 66, Odegaard 90+1/Celtic – Young Boys 1-0 (0-0)/Benito (og) 86/Feyenoord – Bayern 3-0 (2-0)/Gimenez 21, 45+9 pen, Ueda 89/Milan – Girona 1-0 (1-0)/Leao 37/PSG – Man City 4-2 (0-0)/Dembele 56, Barcola 60, Neves 78, Ramos 90+3 – Grealish 50, Haaland 53/Real Madrid – RB Salzburg 5-1 (2-0)/Rodrygo 23, 34, Mbappe 48, Vinicus 55, 77 – Bidstrup 86/
