Vihiga Queens humble Mombasa Olympic to remain in contention for WPL title

Vihiga Queens intensified their hunt for the FKF Women Premier League (WPL) title with a hard-fought 1-0 away win over Mombasa Olympic at Makande Primary School Grounds. Given the contrasting forms of the two teams, Vihiga were expected to make light work of the hosts and take home all points. However, the former champions were made to break sweat for the three points as Olympic mounted solid defence and provided answers to all the questions asked by the visitors. The difficult conditions did not help Vihiga as they appeared to play with the handbrake on in a bid to balance the energy in either halves. ##NAJAVA_MECA_8692779##There was nothing to write home about the first half as both teams did not create enough although Vihiga were slightly in control of the proceedings. Vihiga head coach Vincent Nyamunyamuh made his first change in the 56th minute, bringing in Diana Cherono for Noel Amutata as he sought to break the stubborn Olympic defence. The change proved spot on as Cherono made the difference in the match as she found the back of the net in the 71st minute after Saumu Nanjala put her through. Vihiga were forced to fend off pressure from the hosts in the dying minutes of the game as Olympic worked overtime to salvage at least a point from the contest.
