Sports Registrar fingers Gor Mahia official for delaying club elections

Sports Registrar Rose Wasike has come out guns blazing and accused Gor Mahia Secretary General Samuel Ochola of deliberately delaying club elections.Ochola wrote to Wasike to seek the legal requirements to be observed in the elections but the latter, in a rather harsh rejoinder, castigated the former for employing delaying tactics aimed at frustrating the polls, as directed by the Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT).The origin of the feud can be traced back to 17,July 2024 when Wasike asked Gor to organize elections, which according to the club, had delayed as a member of the club, Benard Agwera Omolo filed a legal petition at the SDT on 1,September 2024.The petition was canvassed with the tribunal, in a ruling rendered on Wednesday 15, January 2025, among other things, ordered K’Ogalo to conduct elections within 90 days of the ruling.It is on this basis that Ochola sent a letter to the registrar on Thursday 30,January, seeking clarification on three matters so as to comply with the constitutional obligations ordered by the SDT.##NAJAVA_MECA_8692808##Among the questions posed by Ochola include the copy of the two constitutions possession of Wasike and the possible areas of amendment.Ochola further, informed the registrar that the club will furnish her office with the steps undertaken to ensure compliance ahead of the elections and sought for a quick response.On Friday 7 February 2025, about eight days later, Wasike replied to Ochola’s letter but this time, not with some kind words as she read malice in the club official’s requests.Former Harambee Stars midfielder proposes thorough reforms to cure perennial Kenyan football problemsWasike wondered the kind of questions the club sought to know, especially, given the fact that Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier is a lawyer and an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over 40 years of experience.“Even with the court order instructing you to hold elections within 90 days you dare ask the Sports Registrar such flimsy questions?,” she asked.“Your chairman and yourselves should be answering the raised questions; the Chairman being a lawyer like me and an Advocate of the High Court should be asked why he has never amended the constitution for all the years he has been in office,” read another part of Wasike’s letter to Ochola.Wasike went ahead to ask Ochola and the club to issue notice to members and all the relevant offices, and subsequently, hold elections within 90 days as directed by the SDT.AFC Leopards set historic Dandora gate record in stalemate against SharksHowever, Wasike said that in situations where the club’s constitution will be in conflict with the provisions of Article 82 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, provisions of the Sports Act; the Sports Registrar Regulations 2016 or any other relevant law, the provisions of the law will prevail over the club’s constitution’s provisions.“Please stop delaying the elections, issue the necessary notices to members and relevant offices and proceed for election as advised by me and as per the SDT ruling that you referred to ,” she said.Nairobi City Stars midfielder tips younger brother to join EPL in futureThe current Gor Mahia Executive Committee came into office via an election on 8,August 2020 and their four-year term expired on 8,August laat year.Rachier has been at the helm of the 21-time champions since his dramatic election in 2008 and might be in the last year of what would be an 18-year reign.On 15,January 2024, the SDT allowed the Executive Committee to remain in office in order to ensure continuity and facilitate the elections.
