Klopp to choose his former colleague as new Leipzig boss?

One of the most hated clubs in Germany (apart from Bayern Munich) is Leipzig. The reason is simple, the once bottom of the lower leagues club SSV Markranstädt accepted an offer from industrial giants Red Bull who established RasenBallsport Leipzig e.V in 2009, which is now known as Red Bull Leipzig. The club managed to formally apply to the 50+1 rule which is an obligation in Bundesliga (with the exception of Leverkusen and Wolfsburg) but is in fact run by the mighty corporation, which infuriated the German football fans all over the country. Appointing Jurgen Klopp as their “Head of Global Soccer” turned many fans against the popular German coach, accusing him of ‘selling out‘. And after getting into the new chair in 2025, former Liverpool manager will have his first big job – to find a new coach for the most popular of all Red Bull owned clubs – Leipzig.Red Bull’s new head of global football, Jurgen Klopp, will have his own float at the Rose Monday carnival parade in Mainz. The float, at a parade known for its political satire, shows Klopp with wings made of banknotes, holding a can of Red Bull and a football. Some Mainz… pic.twitter.com/Nl3sTys1aR— ESPN FC (@ESPNFC) March 3, 2025 Since being promoted to Bundesliga in 2017, Leipzig is the most consistant club in the German elite competition, not couting clubs like Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund. There were other clubs who moved closer to these two clubs, but it usually lasted only a season or two. Leipzig on the other hand was always there. In their first season in Bundesliga, and in 2018, they finished as sixth, and it has been their worst record since. Until this season, their table position was either second (two times), or third (three times) or fourth (two times). One of the reasons for that success, apart from the good work of the management in scouting was their goal – to qualify for the Champions League at all costs. Whenever a coach was in danger of getting out of the first four spots, he was removed quickly, no matter who he was.Brutal Bayern run over Leipzig in crazy Bundesliga derbyThis season is their worse since that 2018, as they are now sixth. They are trailing fourth place Mainz by only three points, but the team is playing bad (only two wins in the league in 2025) and they have also been atrocious in the Champions League, finishing 32nd among 36 teams. Marco Rose is on the hot seat and his former teammate and friend Jurgen Klopp has to decide on his fate. So far, Klopp has been supportive of Rose and that is one of the reasons why he is still on Leipzig‘s bench. But there are other factors too – like who would succeed him in March, when the season is almost over. Leipzig drew a shortlist and Jurgen Klopp will be asked to assess the candidates, but non of those names is not available until May.’As fake as his teeth’: Klopp blasted over Red Bull roleCurrent Stuttgart boss Sebastian Hoeness is set to be the favorite to take the job, and according to Bild, Klopp would choose him if Rose was to go (which is all but certain), but there are other candidates too. For example, former Leverkusen and Benfica boss Roger Schmidt, who is now free but already turned down Dortmund as he doesn‘t want to take any clubs until May 2025. The latest name is Klopp‘s former Premier League colleague Oliver Glasner. The current Crystal Palace coach is doing well in England with a limited London team and his contract is up this May. He was a subject of enquiry by Bayern last June (before they got Vincent Kompany), but Palace wanted a 186 million in compensation, a clear indication that they didn‘t want to let him go. But now he will be available in May, so Klopp will have to make a decision by then. Or sooner, if Rose continues his current slump.##NAJAVA_MECA_8744395##
