Muyoti denies reports linking him to Harambee Stars second assistant job

Nairobi United head coach and former Kenyan international Nicholas Muyoti has dismissed reports linking him to the position of second assistant coach role at Harambee Stars. Last week, it was widely reported that the former Nairobi City Stars coach had been approved for the position, with additional sources indicating that he would be unveiled alongside South African coach Benni McCarthy. Although the soft-spoken tactician acknowledged the reports linking him to the second assistant coaching job, he insisted that he had not joined the Stars bench in any capacity, neither was he lobbying for it. On Monday, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) unveiled McCarthy as the new Stars head coach with; Vassili Manousakis, Moeneeb Josephs and Pilela Maposa joining him as the assistant coach, goalkeeper trainer and performance analyst respectively. ##NAJAVA_MECA_8755760##Muyoti, a midfielder during his active years, was among the legends, who graced the official unveiling of McCarthy and other new members of the Stars bench at a Nairobi hotel. “I have not joined the national team technical bench as it has been widely reported. If the appointing authority is convinced that I have something to offer to the team, then I am ready to serve. I am willing to join hands with McCarthy and the rest in restoring the team’s lost glory,” said Muyoti.Benni McCarthy’s miracle promise after taking over as Harambee Stars coachReacting to the appointment of the former Manchester United forwards’ coach, Muyoti termed McCarthy as the right man to get Stars firing again after years of disappointing performances in crucial qualifiers. Stars have never made it to the World Cup and last featured in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in the 2019 edition held in Egypt. Benni McCarthy-mania on show in rare Harambee Stars unveilingWorse still, the team has struggled to maintain a steady rise on the FIFA rankings with the team being currently positioned at 108 on the log. “It was important to have an experienced coach, who will get the national team back to where it is supposed to be. His track record both as a player and a coach is impressive. There are a lot of expectations, but we have to be patient. With the right support, he will improve the team and our position on the FIFA standings,” added the former Kakamega Homeboyz coach.
