Shimanyula stands by Patrick Matasi in wake of spot-fixing allegation

Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula says Patrick Matasi will remain part of his team, despite the emergence of a video capturing the experienced goalkeeper at the centre of an alleged attempt at spot-fixing.A 40-second video was circulated online on Wednesday night, showing Matasi in conversation with another individual, who seemed to be giving him instructions on the outcome of a match.Asked about the clip, which Mozzart Sport cannot prove its authenticity, Shimanyula said he could also not tell whether it was a “camera trick or true” adding that in his position, he was not in a hurry to judge “like everyone is doing online.”Goalkeeper Patrick Matasi. #FootballKE pic.twitter.com/eH79oozLdK— Ole Teya (@TeyaKevin) March 26, 2025 “First of all, I am not a specialist to analyse whether it was a camera trick or if it’s true,” Shimanyula exclusively told Mozzart Sport on Thursday.“People are saying all manner of things, and yet there is not enough detail in that video. Until now, there is no idea of which game he was allegedly talking about, or even where he was.“He remains innocent until proven guilty. Most times, people are in a hurry to judge, but not myself.”##NAJAVA_MECA_8804697##Asked whether he would initiate a club investigation, Shimanyula said: “No. We have no time for that if it did not happen here. When we acquired Matasi mid-season, there were already rumours everywhere about his conduct. But I am a believer in giving people second chances and our instruction to him was very clear. We wanted him to take his job here very seriously, and that is what he has done in the past month.”If there needed to be a conversation between the chairman and Matasi, Shimanyula added: “I have this morning instructed the team manager and goalkeeper trainer to show him the video when he comes for training, and if true, ask him not to engage in such activities here.”Firat speaks on Matasi’s errors against CameroonOn the eventuality of more evidence proving the authenticity of the video, Shimanyula said that would not change the club’s view of the shot-stopper.“Even if it is true and it’s clear it happened a while ago, he has a chance of changing. In our league, and even at Harambee Stars, he remains the best. No one, including those who played for the national team days ago, gets to his level. He remains part of our team.”Efforts by Mozzart Sport to reach Matasi proved futile.Victor Wanyama signs for Scottish second-tier club
