Jurgen Klopp‘s ‘honeymoon‘ with Red Bull is over. The former Dortmund and Liverpool coach took a new job at the beginning of the season as he became Global Head of Soccer of the company, which means he oversees all three clubs under the ownership of Red Bull: Leipzig, Salzburg and New York. And on Sunday, he had to make his first unpopular move (or at least agree with it): to sack his former player. After Sunday‘s defeat in Monchengladbach and falling to the sixth place in Bundesliga, RB Leipzig decided to sack Marco Rose. It‘s not yet clear how big Klopp‘s role has been in this move, as he was one of the players he signed for Mainz when he first became a coach. According to German publication Bild, Klopp had been the one calling for the club to give Rose more time in charge, instead of bringing his two-and-a-half-year reign to an end earlier. But a danger of mission on the Champions League spot was stronger and some reports also suggest that after Borussia Monchengladbach even Klopp agreed that a change was needed.Klopp to choose his former colleague as new Leipzig boss? The experienced coach has done a lot of good for the Red Bull club, winning two trophies—most notably the Super Cup against Bayern in brilliant fashion, dismantling them 3-0. But, the Champions League is and will remain the only real goal for Red Bull company. All other coaches were also sacked only if they failed in that mission. Missing out on Champions League revenue would be a significant blow for a club that boasts the third most expensive squad in the Bundesliga and has consistently competed in Europe’s top competition for the past six years. Over the last two and a half months, Leipzig has managed only two wins, with an alarming four-game away streak without scoring a single goal. If only the second half of the season were considered, Leipzig would be sitting in ninth place on the table. Zsolt Low will take over as interim coach until the summer, and Red Bull bosses are already working on a major permanent solution, but have not yet agreed on a candidate.##NAJAVA_MECA_8813514##
