For most parts of the season, Liverpool played fantastic with no defeats and no injuries. Off course, with a heavy schedule and strong competition in the Premier League nobody expected them to play like that the whole season, but in April, the Reds are not looking good. In the last five games in all competition, Liverpool lost three matches but Arsenal gave them an opportunity to extend their points difference with a draw against Brentford. The Reds played a pale game but in the end prevailed: Liverpool – West Ham.🚨 VAN DIJK SCORES FOR LIVERPOOL IN 88TH MINUTE 🤯🔥🔥pic.twitter.com/nYmIKedyUT— KinG £ (@xKGx__) April 13, 2025 Arne Slot made five changes from the last week‘s surprise defeat at Fulham and he had a favorable opponent as well. West Ham is one of Liverpool‘s ‘favorite‘ teams and just this season, they have beaten the Hammers twice, scoring five goals in each game. But today Liverpool continued their pale displays and were saved first by Alisson, who had a couple of fantastic saves and then by their captain Virgil Van Dijk, who brought the winner in the 89th minute, just after his teammate scored an own goal. It was a game of two halfs, where Liverpool dominated in the first and then totally stopped in the second part which West Ham used to equalize near the very end. But, a bit unfair, the Reds got their result through their captain, whose header gave the much needed three points.⚽️ GOAL: Luis Diaz opens scoring🏴 Liverpool 1-0 West Hampic.twitter.com/oBSysL5R7k— Goals Xtra (@GoalsXtra) April 13, 2025 Nothing really happened until the 14th minute, when Conor Bradley took a shot and the ball hit Paqueta in the process and almost went into the net. Just a minute later Jones tried a long-distance shot, but it was easily picked up by Areola. It was Salah‘s turn then, but the Egyptian wasn‘t precise in his attempt to hit the far post. However, not a minute later, similar situation happened, but this time, Salah assisted to Luis Diaz, who only needed to put up his foot and give Liverpool the lead in the 18th minute. With that assist for Luis Diaz, Salah has broken the record for the most goals and assists in a Premier League in a 38-game season, as he overtook Thierry Henry with his 45th of the campaign. The Egyptian nearly assisted again when he gave the ball to Mac Allister, but his shot was saved by West Ham keeper. The guests managed only two chances in the first 45 minutes. Kudus had a big opportunity but Alisson managed to touch the ball just enough to hit the crossbar. The second one came in injury time, but Mavropanos‘ header after a free kick went just over the bar.🚨🏴 GOAL | Liverpool 1-1 West Ham | Andrew Robertson (OG)WEST HAM HAVE EQUALIZED IN THE 86TH MINUTE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!pic.twitter.com/1SJ8dDN0Dp— Tekkers Foot (@tekkersfoot) April 13, 2025 West Ham fans were not so optimistic as they looked at the stats: Liverpool have not lost any of their last 152 home Premier League games when they’ve been ahead at half-time since a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in December 2009. And the hosts had a chance to extend the lead in the 46th minute, when Mac Allister‘s free kick rattled the cross bar. But from than on, the hosts played poor and in fact haven’t had a touch in West Ham’s box until the 70th minute! On the opposite side, West Ham had two excellent opportunities but missed them both. In the 62nd minute, a Van Dijk allowed Bowen to cut the ball back to Soler but the midfielder‘s shot went just over the bar. Five minutes later Bowen should have scored from a close range but instead Alisson made a great save. The Brazilian again saved his team after Kudus‘ shot from wide left in the 70th minute. But the revenge (so it seemed at the time) came in the 86th minute, when Robertson scored an own goal. Totally deserved for West Ham, but it wasn‘t to be. After a corner just three minutes later, Van Dijk jumped above all others and brought a much needed three points to his team. Niklas Fullkrug could have been the hero in injury time, but his shot rattled the crossbar and the score remained 2-1.PREMIER LEAGUE – MATCHDAY 32SaturdayMan.
