When you travel 20 hours just to meet Wanyama

Needles to say that Victor Wanyama is a legend in Kenya. Former Celtic, Tottenham and Southampton player is hugely popular in Kenya, but his fame doesn‘t stop there. In every part of the world there are Wanayama fans. One of them is Wesley Lim, a 29-years old football fan from Singapore. Lim used to watch football as a kid and the Premier League was his favorite and among them he spotted Wanyama. Years later, he got the opportunity to meet his hero, and he accepted it.📸 pic.twitter.com/qugCNxTLX4— Dunfermline Athletic (@officialdafc) April 17, 2025 Meeting the former Harambee Star meant that he would have to travel 20 hours from Singapore to Dunfermline, but it was not a problem for Lim.“In Singapore, we all grew up watching the premier league on TV. I followed Wanyama when he was at Southampton and Spurs, but your chances of meeting a player at these clubs is closer to zero. Then a few weeks ago there was a sponsored post on Facebook that came up saying that Neil Lennon joined Dunfermline, and of course Victor signed a couple of days later. I thought ‘could I be a part of this? Let me just drop an email and see what comes up. When I met him, I don’t really know how to explain it, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. How many times do you get to meet someone you’ve seen on TV for ten years.Standing next to him was like ‘wow, he’s huge.’ His athleticism and tenacity as a defensive midfielder is something that’s really hard to find” said Lim.Dunfermline coach backs Victor Wanyama to untangle club from relegation quagmireDuring his years of following football, he had a chance to see the Scottish league and knew about Dunfermline before Wanyama‘s arrival but now watching them regularly. He had a chance to visit the club and its facilities as well as the town itself and was impressed, but meeting the Kenyan star was, after all, the highlight of his visit.##NAJAVA_MECA_8860184##
