Sane stays in Bayern but with a lower salary

Eleven goals, five assists, and the usual inconsistency — that’s Leroy Sane’s record this season in a Bayern Munich shirt. Since he arrived from Manchester City in 2020, Bayern have often had to guess which version of Sane would show up on the pitch. Would he tear down the wing like Pac-Man, devouring defenders, or bounce off them like a pinball, losing possession and squandering chances?Al-Ittihad offered Leroy Sané around €25 million net per year, but money wasn’t the most important factor for him. Bayern really appreciated Sané’s early commitment to stay and accept a pay cut [@BILD] https://t.co/gnbc4yCALg pic.twitter.com/oJknNE7MTs— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) April 25, 2025 As the German winger is not among the untouchables (like Jamal Musiala or Harry Kane), and with his contract expiring at the end of June, there has been ongoing speculation about whether the 29-year-old would stay at Bayern or leave. German newspaper BILD provided the answer. Although there is still no official confirmation, the future of the former Schalke and Manchester City player appears to be at the Allianz Arena.Bayern supremo admits mistake over Muller situationIn recent months, Bayern have extended the contracts of Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, Joshua Kimmich, and Manuel Neuer, and Sane is set to follow… albeit with a significant salary reduction. Sane, who currently earns 15 million euros gross annually with an additional 5 million in potential bonuses, is expected to sign a new deal until 2028, with a salary of 10 million plus 5 million in bonuses per season. Even though Sane received an offer from Al-Ittihad worth 25 million per year, he seems to have a different vision for his future. According to BILD, Bayern’s management values Sane’s commitment, and the player himself is reportedly willing to accept a “financial downgrade” in order to continue playing for Germany’s most decorated club.Bayern’s empty wish: A proper central defenderSince Bayern paid Manchester City 49 million euros for him in June 2020, Sane has played 216 matches, scoring 59 goals and providing 54 assists. On average, he contributes a goal or assist every other game. However, there’s a prevailing impression that he too often disappears when Bayern need him most. For example, this season he has scored only once in 13 Champions League matches — in the opening 9–2 win over Dinamo — and has not registered a single assist. Taking last season into account as well, he has 3 goals and 2 assists in 25 Champions League appearances. It’s no surprise, then, that Bayern made a significant salary reduction a condition for renewing his contract. In the last two seasons, he simply hasn’t delivered enough.BUNDESLIGA – MATCHDAY 31Friday21:30: (1.48) Stuttgart (5.00) Heidenheim (6.50)Saturday16:30: (1.23) Bayern (7.50) Mainz (13.0)16:30: (4.30) Hoffenheim (4.05) Dortmund (1.75)16:30: (2.95) Holstein Kiel (3.75) M’ gladbach (2.25)16:30: (1.40) Leverkusen (5.00) Augsburg (9.00)16:30: (2.50) Wolfsburg (3.60) Freiburg (2.85)19:30: (2.25) Eintr.Frankfurt (3.85) RB Leipzig (3.05)Sunday16:30: (2.35) Bochum (3.50) Union Berlin (3.20)18:30: (1.93) Werder (3.50) St.Pauli (4.00)***odds are subject to change***
