Chelsea and United play game – loser gets Sancho

What a fantastic job Borussia Dortmund made. They struck gold with Jadon Sancho when they bought him from Manchester City for just 9 million euros in 2017 and then sold him to Manchester United in 2021 for a sum of 85 million euros! After that deal, the England international failed to live up to his expectations and many football pundits (and fans) believe that his zenith was with Borussia, while others point out that being in Manchester United alone was enough for any player to fail (see Marcus Rashford and Antony after they left the club). But considering his role in Chelsea this year, it seems that the first opinion wins, as Sancho hasn’t showed much in West London as well. Also, looking at the deal between the Blues and Manchester, it seems that Chelsea weren’t 100% sure about him either.Jadon Sancho is a player reborn. 🔥He’s now got two more assists this season than he had in the previous three combined. 😅📈The grass at Chelsea may really be greener. 👀 pic.twitter.com/sTAUQ43EnN— talkSPORT (@talkSPORT) April 18, 2025 Sancho was loaned to The Blues in August and ended up with only 36 appearances (three goals and 10 assists) in all competition so far. But, according to the reports regarding his contract in London, he should stay there on a permanent basis. The agreement included a purchase obligation of between 27 million and 30 million euros. But, this obligation came into effect only if Chelsea finished the season in 14th place or higher. After their dramatic last-minutes win over Fulham, that obligation was mathematically fulfilled and the clause was triggered. But….BVB files: The importance of coming from England and having a J-starting nameAs we said at the beginning, Chelsea valued Sancho (otherwise they wouldn’t loan him in the first place), but obviously weren’t so sure about him. That is why they added another option in the same contract, or to be precise, an exit clause. That clause basically gives them an option not to buy the player, even if they are bound to. According to the reports, they can sent Sancho back to Manchester, and pay a ‘penalty’ fee of almost six million euros. Transfer expert Ben Jacobs wrote that “Chelsea’s victory over Fulham means that the obligation to buy Jadon Sancho has been activated. However, Chelsea can circumvent the obligation by making a payment to Man United. The decision on whether Sancho stays will be made at the end of the season”. Considering his record so far at the Stamford Bridge, the Blues will pay the penalty and sent him back to Manchester.##NAJAVA_MECA_8883731##
