Paris: Chaos on the street, wild celebration in the locker room

Just for the second time in their history, PSG have reached the Champions League final. Since the state of Qatar bought the club in 2011, the ‘Holy Grail’ of all UEFA’s competitions has been on their sight and they spend literally billions to achieve that cause. So far, they failed. But, on May 31st, they will have their second opportunity and everybody hopes this time they will be successful. PSG made their first-ever appearance in the UEFA Champions League final in 2020. However, it was an evening to forget for the Ligue 1 side as they were beaten 1-0 by Bayern Munich in a fixture played behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There were chants to the man of the match Ashraf Hakimi (‘MVP, MVP’), there were glorifications of Gigi Donnarumma who had three exceptional saves and prevented Arsenal from turning the game around and the atmosphere lasted for some time before players were united with their families. But different atmosphere prevented during and after the match on the streets of Paris.Parc des Princes sees the magic! PSG are going for the European throne!According to the police, over 44 people were arrested on charges of “participation in a group with the aim of committing damage and violence”, “intentional violence against persons in positions of public authority”, including throwing projectiles, and “possession of explosive or incendiary products”, such as fireworks mortars, the prosecutor’s office told BFMTV. Those fans were mostly the ones which couldn’t get the ticket and which hang out either outside the stadium or were watching the game in different parts of the city. Champs-Elysees was also a small battle field. Several thousand fans gathered to celebrate the victory and one car hit three people, either by accident or due to intent, but the police didn’t have time to investigate, since the car was set on fire. A Paris City Hall vehicle was also damaged and overturned on Place des Etats-Unis in the 16th arrondissement. In the same square, two private vehicles were damaged. During the match, police reported 14 minor injuries. A female officer was also slightly injured by a projectile.
