When the Champions League started with a new format this season, people expected some surprises and they did happen during the group stages, but also during the elimination rounds (Real, Liverpool, Bayern). But if somebody asked the fans (even Inter fans) will PSG and Inter be in the final, they would hardly believe so. Yet, here they are and it was fully deserved. Apart from Barcelona, the Parisians played the most beautiful football in 2024/25 and thrilled the football fans around the world. On the other side was the ageing Inter Milan team, but with bunch of experience and resilience which proved crucial in the end. It also has to be said that they did have a bit of luck against both Bayern Munich and Barcelona, who were missing far too many players through injury. If anyone deserves to win it, then it’s this manBut despite all, those two clubs are in the final and in the process of getting there, they broke a 21-years old ‘rule’. That’s how many years passed since the clubs who are not from either England, Spain or Germany met in the final. In 2004, FC Porto –under Jose Mourinho – defeated AS Monaco 3-0. Also, this year’s Champions League winner will not be a club from Spain, England or Germany. It sounds incredible but it is so. And the funny thing is, the last time this happened in the UEFA’s most prestigious competition, Inter was also involved. Back then, Nerrazurri led by coach Jose Mourinho, beat FC Bayern 2-0 at the Bernabeu. Since then, the trophy has gone to Real Madrid six times, FC Barcelona, FC Bayern, and FC Chelsea twice each, and to Liverpool and Manchester City once each – meaning eight times to Spain, four to England, and twice to Germany. How the team which crushed Barca was madeIn fact, this will be only the second Champions League final between an Italian and a French team. The first one happened in 1993, when Olympique Marseille won 1-0 over AC Milan. To this day, the famous club from the south of France is the only club from this country to win the Champions League. This will also be the first final ever between Inter Milan and PSG and it will happen on May 31st at the Allianz Arena in Munich.##NAJAVA_MECA_8910272##
