Government issue update on Talanta City Stadium construction [PHOTOS]

The Government of Kenya has issued several updates concerning the state of development of Talanta Sports City, 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) among others.This is following a site visit to the Ngong’ Road-based Talanta Sports City by Principal Secretary for Sports Elijah Mwangi and his Forestry counterpart Gitonga Mugambi as well as officials from the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) on Tuesday 20 May 2025.Follow our WhatsApp channel for more newsTalanta Sports City is a flagship project by the government to construct a brand new ultramodern stadium in readiness for 2027 AFCON which Kenya will co-host alongside neighbours Uganda and Tanzania.Apart from AFCON 2027, the three East African countries also won the rights to co-host the 2024 CHAN which will be held in August 2025.In order to be ready for the two tournaments, Kenya is facelifting Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadium to host CHAN with Talanta joining the two for AFCON.President William Ruto therefore led the groundbreaking for the proposed 60,000-seater stadium on 1 March 2024 with the construction expected to end between December 2025 an March 2026.In the latest photos shared by the PS, Curtain walls in the facility are now complete as was reported by Mozzart Sport in our previous update, to help in aesthetics and prevent outside weather from affecting the structure.Stands structure almost complete in Talanta Stadium latest updates [VIDEO]Additionally, the canopy walls continue to be erected across the stadium in readiness for the canopy stands and the general roofing structure.In fact, in a section of the stadium, the canopy walls have significantly been successfully erected as the top layer of the section was already complete.Even as the canopy walls continue to get erected, a section of the stadium’s third layer is still incomplete due to structural difficulties but from the photos, all steel works are seemingly complete with slubbing continuing in order to bring them up to speed.The skeleton structures of the first and second layers were already complete and partitioning was already beginning in earnest including the middle section which will house the presidential area, the VVIP, the VIP and the main camera area among others.Works on the tunnel that leads to the stadium are also ongoing, with beams already erected as the tunnel takes shape as part of the many ongoing developments.After the two PS’s visit, Mwangi who previously served in the Mining docket announced through State Department for Sports – Kenya’s X (formerly Twitter) account announced that the stadium is due for completion by December 2025.“The historic stadium is expected to be completed by December 2025 and shall be used to host AFCON 2027 among other stadiums,” reads part of the statement.The Stadium which is being constructed by the renowned China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) who are known for their thoroughness and timeliness delivery of projects has employed thousands of workers throughout the day to meet the deadline.“The team expressed its satisfaction with the efforts employed by the contractor.
