Otieno in, Makwata out as Gaborone cruise in Botswana

Duncan Otieno featured for 90 minutes as his Botswana club, Gaborone United picked a 4-0 win over Nico United on Saturday evening.Otieno, who had started and finished all the other six league matches this campaign was once again handed a starting berth in the team as they saw off Nico to leapfrog Jwaneng Galaxy to the top of the Botswana Premier League table.##NAJAVA_MECA_6882931##Seventeen minutes into the game, Tshepo Malgas gave the hosts the lead with a low shot that beat Nico’s keeper. This was a fruit of persistent early pressure from the league champions who from the first minute attacked with vigour.Team captain Mpho Kgaswane made it 2-0 six minutes before the break, finding the back of the net after a great team move. The visitors showed much more improvement after the interval keeping United attackers at bay in a bid to keep the scoreline respectful. 16 minutes from time, a Nico defender found the back of his own net after deflecting an Alford Velaphi free-kick delivery home. Substitute Thero Setsile then completed the rout three minutes from time. The win takes United’s tally of the season to 19 points, the only blemish in their run is the 1-1 draw against Township Rollers. Second-placed Jwaneng Galaxy have the same number of points but with an inferior goal difference.BPL Latest: 34* #KillerPassGaborone United 1-0 Nico United Tshepo Malgas || pic.twitter.com/tPdVTTm7dC— killerpass Botswana (@KillerpassBOTS) December 10, 2022 As Otieno continues to flourish, his compatriot John Makwata continues to struggle and was not named in Saturday’s match-day squad.United assistant coach Pontsho Moloi is happy with how his team played saying they had a plan which they implemented well.“We know how to play, we play going forward, we play to try and win games and that will never change from the first minute we started attacking to win the game and we did exactly that,” he said.“Staying at the top is pressure on its own and we are used to it.
