Spot-on Nzoia outclass KCB at Kasarani

Nzoia Sugar FC came from a goal now to beat KCB 2-1 in an FKF Premier League tie staged at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani on Sunday afternoon. The Bankers went ahead through Francis Kahiro before Nzoia hit back with two goals from the penalty spot – both converted by Boniface Munyendo. In his post-match interview, KCB assistant coach Godfrey Oduor said they were just not good enough. “We came into this game knowing that we are going to face a team that’s also tough. We started well, we also got a goal but it wasn’t good enough for us to win this match and we congratulate Nzoia for winning this particular match. We will go back to the drawing board and try to raise the players’ confidence because after a loss it is dented, ” he said. His Nzoia Sugar counterpart, Salim Babu was elated saying everything went as they had planned. We planned ourselves well because we knew we were coming up against a tough team. We prepared well for this game, we knew what to expect and I think everything went according to script and we got the points. We came to win, we did not sit back and you saw we kept attacking to the lady minute. It is a good win for the team, ” he said.FulltimeKCB 1-2 Nzoia Sugar FCThe best team won. Humphrey Katasi spilled a feeble and Francis Kahiro was well placed to fire home on the rebound. A minute later, Joseph Mwangi should have drawn Nzoia Sugar level but he somehow hit the sidenet with only the keeper to beat. The early drama continued in the 11th minute when Nzoia were awarded a penalty for a foul inside the area. Felicien Okanda danced his way into the area and just as he was about to fire home, he was hacked down by Maurice Ojwang, a penalty was awarded which Boniface Munyendo expertly converted. The millers took charge of the clash after leveling the scores and went all out. They should have gone ahead in the 15th minute but Okanda and Yasin Sije’s miscommunication allowed the Bankers to clear what looked like an easy chance.Against the run of play, the Bungoma based millers won another spot kick. Nicholas Kipkirui fouled Hassan Beja inside the penalty area while defending a set piece and a penalty was awarded which Munyendo expertly converted.Boniface Munyendo finds the back of the net from the spot to give Nzoia the second goal.KCB 1 Nzoia 2 https://t.co/wynJYU5lDq pic.twitter.com/Ku7Xq1MyNP— Meshack Kisenge (@kisengemeshack1) December 11, 2022 The Bankers thought that they had leveled matters just before the break but Katasi somehow managed to pull a superb save to pary a Michael Mutinda long range shot wide, the millers taking a narrow lead to the break.Second half The start of the second stanza was a contested one with both teams fighting to take charge of the clash and score more goals. Okanda and Joseph Mwangi continued to cause the Bankers problems while John Mwangi and Kipkirui were KCB’s main men upfront. The visitors however dominated possession with some free flowing football.KCB made three changes at the hour mark. Kipkirui, Kahiro, Mohamed Kilume went off for Michael Oduor, Erick Adem and Henry Onyango in a bid to add more punch in his visibly tame forward line.Zedekiah Otieno’s men resorted to long balls in the later stages of the game after Nzoia proved a tough nut to crack at the back and although the long balls caused them problems, it did not breach their rearguard. In the end, the millers picked their second win of the season while the Bankers suffered a second defeat of the season.KCB Starting XI: Byrne Omondi, Nashon Wekesa, Harun Mwale, Nashon Alembi, Maurice Ojwang, Michael Mutinda, Mohammed Kilume, Brian Nden’ga, Nicholas Kipkirui, Francis Kahiro, John MwangiSubs: Gabriel Andika, Danson Namasaka, Bramwel Chemweno, Derrick Otieno, Hillary Dukussy, Samuel Mwangi, Hillary Wandera, Henry Onyango, Michael Oduor, Erick Adem, Rama Mwenda, Haniff WesongaNzoia Sugar FC Starting XI: Humphrey Katasi, Moses Mwale, Vincent Mahiga, Ian Karani, Randy Bakari, Kevin Juma, Hassan Beja, Bonface Kweyu, Yasin Sije, Joseph Mwangi, Felicien OkandaSubs: Benson Mangala, Timothy Wanyanga, Harun Thomas, Salim Odeka, Steve Otieno, Ian Simiyu, Leonard Kasembeli, Alfred Emoni.Posta Rangers 0-0 Nairobi City Stars In another match played at the Thika Sub County Stadium, Posta Rangers and Nairobi City Stars played to a dull barren draw.90’It’s an even-steven affair here at Thika Stadium Posta Rangers 0 – 0 Nairobi City Stars#SimbaWaNairobi pic.twitter.com/Pl0dvLt72U— Official Nairobi City Stars Fc (@NrbCityStars) December 11, 2022
