Mwalala lauds consistent hitman Simiyu, wants other forwards to step up

Ulinzi Stars head coach Bernard Mwalala has heaped praises on striker Hillary Simiyu as the former Nzoia Sugar man continues to get goals for the soldiers.Simiyu has scored in the last three games as Ulinzi strive to recover from the early season’s struggles. He found the back of the net against Kariobangi Sharks in a 3-2 defeat and scored the only goal of the game against Posta Rangers before earning his side a point in a one-all draw with Kakamega Homeboyz.##NAJAVA_MECA_6886653##His coach, also a former striker is happy with the striker’s run of form. “He’s doing well and I am really happy for him, hopefully, he can continue with that run of form for longer,” he said.Mwalala believes that there is still room for improvement for Simiyu and described him as a natural goal-scorer.”In our league, it’s not easy to see a striker scoring in two consecutive games and Simiyu has done it in three. He has the scorer’s instincts and as his coach, I believe that he can get better. There are a few things that if he improves on, we will witness a very good striker in front of goal. For him scoring is natural and I know that with more work at the training ground, he will get better, “he said.71’Hillary Simiyu scores for Ulinzi 3-2#FKFPL pic.twitter.com/h5lz0BHQT8— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) November 27, 2022 The Soldiers have scored just four goals this season. Simiyu has three while the other was scored by Boniface Muchiri and Mwalala wants other players to shoulder the scoring burden to prevent over-reliance on the forward.”Now that I am assured of his goals, it’s about getting one or two other players who can score goals consistently. As a coach, once you have two or three clinical players your work becomes easier because you got options. If Simiyu doesn’t score you know goals will come from Muchiri, if Muchiri doesn’t score you are sure that you can count on Clinton (Omondi). So at the moment we are working towards having more scorers and after which we will be good to go, ” he added. On Saturday, the Soldiers will take on Sofapaka FC at their Lang’ata Sports Complex backyard and even though Batoto ba Mungu are winless this season, Mwalala is not underrating them.”It’s a big game, against a very good side and we definitely want to get the points. We know that they are winless this season but that does not make the game any easier, it actually makes it hard because they will be keen on getting all the points,” he added.Tusker are in early title shape but who else can match their strides?
