After close to two-years at the club, Kenyan midfielder Philip Mayaka has been released by Major Soccer League (MLS) Colorado Rapids despite having a running contract.The 22-year-old had a deal that was set to expire in December 2023 but the club opted to rip up his contract after failing to break into the Rapids first team.US-based Kenyan midfielder set to launch foundation in MumiasMayaka was the third draft pick for Rapids back in January 2021 after graduating from Clemson College where he impressed during his stint with the institution’s team.The box to box midfielder was initially sent to Switchbacks FC, Rapid’s reserve side back in March 2021 to gain more experience and minutes on the pitch.##NAJAVA_MECA_6900617##The former St.Anthony’s Boys’ High School, Kitale was then offloaded to Colorado Rapids II in March this year who play in the MLS Next Pro after failing to secure more minutes at Switchbacks.At Rapids II, Mayaka slightly impressed winning less than 50% of his 166 attempted ground duels during the regular season, and did not offer much in the way of winning aerial battles (40%) while his pass accuracy of 84.8% was acceptable.He scored three goals while at Rapids II but did not have a single assist to his name in the entire season as he was less effective on the final third of the pitch.How FKF enticed US based Mayaka into Harambee Stars using high school teacherDuring his time at the club, Mayaka managed only three MLS appearances on the bench for Rapids but was yet to register a single minute for the club in their top tier.Mayaka remains a free agent and is free to join any team ahead of next season.
