Ingwe youngster eyeing first team breakthrough after starring in acting debut on Pepeta

AFC Leopards youth team player, Eric Aswani is keen on earning promotion to the senior team next season but believes that acting could offer him a fallback plan incase he does not make the cut in football.The midfielder has been on the limelight in recent weeks after his starring role in Pepeta Showmax, an eight-part crime series that captures the dreams and realities of the youth in Kibera, known for churning out top football players in the country.##NAJAVA_MECA_6937448##Pepeta is loosely based on the real-life story of Harun ‘Rio’ Wathari a former player who chose the path of crime and along the way so many of his friends killed by the police before he opted to reform. He played football alongside Zambia based Harambee Stars striker, Jesse Were.The Ingwe Cubs youngster plays the role of Dayo, a young footballer from Kibera who is trying to change his life and that of his family, through the only means that children from the hood know, football. Next season I will be targeting promotion to the senior team and make a career in football because I believe that I have what it takes to play at the highest level but if it do not work out acting is equally a good path, I enjoyed my role in Pepeta and it is a path worth pursuing,” he stated.Aswani will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Vincent Oburu, Austin Odhiambo, Zachary Njite, Eric Mbithi, Maxwell Otieno, Brian Wanyama, Moses Mukhumwa, and Victor Otieno who all earned promotions from junior team, Oburu and Odhiambo have since moved to. The former is with Zesco United of Zambia while Odhiambo crossed over to rivals, Gor Mahia.
