Gor Mahia lodge formal protest over ‘violent’ elbow on defender Geoffrey Ochieng

Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinstry is unhappy that Kakamega Homeboyz player Shumah Moses escaped with a yellow card for a “violent” elbow against Geoffrey Ochieng in Saturday’s league match at Bukhungu Stadium, and has reported the incident to the FKF with video evidence for possible further action. “Genuinely, it’s outrageous. It’s one of the worst things I’ve seen in a while in football. At top level football now, it’s very rare to see a player being violent towards another player, often there may be a bad tackle, but this isn’t a bad tackle, this is pure violence,” the Irishman told Mozzart Sport. ##NAJAVA_MECA_6945210##In the short clip, which Mozzat Sport has obtained, Shumah can be seen drawing his elbow back and then swings it into Geoffrey’s jaw with the defender dropping on ground writhing in pain. The linesman, who was close to the action, raised his flag to alert the center referee, who gave Shumah a yellow card much to the displeasure of McKinstry.”Geoffrey is very lucky he didn’t have a broken jaw. It’s awful, dangerous and violent. Kakamega Homeboyz should have been down to ten men after six minutes.”Despite Homeboyz keeping the league’s top scorer Benson Omalla quite in the game, Gor still managed to pick maximum points through Lloyd Kavuchi’s lone goal in the 79th minute strike.##EDITORS_CHOICE##Yet, the former Uganda Cranes and Sierra Leone coach thinks the referee was out rightly biased. “He put up five minutes extra time, and then in the 98th minute we were still playing. In those extra three minutes, the referee gave four free-kicks around the edge of our box.”The victory propelled K’Ogalo, who are yet to win the league since 2019, to two points reach of leaders Tusker FC, who have played a game more. The Brewers top the table with 19 points, followed by Nzoia Sugar FC (18) and KCB FC (18).K’Ogalo returns to Nairobi base for their next fixture; a midweek clash against Sofapaka at the Kasarani Stadium on Wednesday.
