As far as debuts go, we’ve seen the ultimate one last night. Uruguayan veteran striker Luis Suarez got his career in Brazilian football off to a dream start as he scored three goals to give Gremio a 4-1 victory over Sao Luiz and the Recopa Gaucha Super Cup title. The former Liverpool, Barcelona and Atleti goalscorer needed just 38 minutes to hit the triple!
The 35-year-old joined the Brazilian club this month after leaving boyhood team Nacional when his short-term contract expired in December. He signed a two-year contract as a free agent after the World Cup and wasted no time in showing the Brazilian public all his goalscoring expertise.
Suarez scored one with a classy lob over the goalkeeper and a venomous volley as the Immortal Tricolor raced to the win. Suarez was subbed off around the hour mark, to the delight of the fans at the Arena Gremio.”I think this was my best debut, although I scored in my debut with Atletico Madrid.”
It was the first time Suarez had scored a first-half hat trick since 2013, when he did it with Liverpool against Norwich City and his most goals in a debut. He scored two goals in his first match with Atleti in 2020 after joining them from Barcelona.##NAJAVA_MECA_6955429##Gremio will play in Brazil’s Serie A this season after earning promotion last year.
