Asensio follows the Eto’o and Luis Enrique path?

Even thou the January transfer window is a rather quiet one (unless you are in England or are a Chelsea fan), that doesn’t mean that there are no news to ‘steer the water’ a bit. And one such news comes from Spain and it involves one player and two biggest rivals – Barcelona and Real Madrid. Marco Asensio, the not so much used midfielder has just changed his agent and he is also in the last months of his contract with the Royal club. President Florentino Perez is keen to keep him, but on his terms, and they seem to be too low for the Spaniard. And Barcelona is looking in his direction. 🚨 Marco Asensio’s agent Jorge Mendes has started talks with Barcelona about a potential free transfer this summer! The contract of the Real Madrid star runs out in June. (Source: @sport) pic.twitter.com/DSMc3hRnqv— Transfer News Live (@DeadlineDayLive) January 23, 2023 Asensio came to Real in 2014 but never made such a breakthrough as expected. He is not so important in Real’s team and although he has made 12 first-team appearances in LaLiga this term, he has only started three games. A few months ago, Asensio fired his long time agent Horacio Gaggioli and signed up with super-agent Jorge Mendes, obviously thinking he will get a better deal in Madrid, or somewhere else. Mendes ‘smelled’ a good commission and went into action. After ‘whispering’ to Premier League clubs that Asensio is ready for a move, the Portuguese also contacted Barcelona. And they responded. They haven’t agreed on anything yet. Nor did Asensio made up his mind. Theoretically, it is still possible for him to stay in Madrid. Although there seems to be little chance of such an epilogue. He is only 27 years old, entering his prime, there would surely be suitors.Crazy transfer window: Gakpo costs as much as all Bundesliga singings together!Barcelona wanted the player way back in 2014, but refused to pay compensation of 4 million euros and he went to Real. If any deal is to be struck with the Catalans, it will be in June, when the player will be a free agent. Barcelona is unable to buy in January anyway, unless they sell somebody. So, will Asensio join the company of Luis Enrique and Samuel Eto’o, other more famous players who played for Real and then switched to Barcelona? Time will tell. ##NAJAVA_MECA_6962267##
