Schools countrywide are reopening for the first term of the year following a break to pave way for the holidays. Ahead of that, the Ministry of Education recently announced the 2023 co-curricular calendar of events for elementary, secondary, and teacher preparation institutions. The regular school year returns after a two-year disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.First on the circular released by Principal Secretary of State Department of Basic Education Belio Kipsang, are the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association Term 1 A games that will take place in Moi Girls Eldoret between April 22-30.Term one will be busy one with various disciplines like athletics, handball, swimming, hockey, and basketball. Rugby 7’s too is supposed to be held in term one but has not been indicated in the calendar. Rugby 15’s will make a grand return in term two.Term 2The term two games are scheduled for Kakamega High School from August 5-12. Various disciplines will be competed in including football, volleyball, netball, rugby, and racquet games. The Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association Championships, which will take place in Bujumbura, Burundi from August 15 to 30, will be the competition’s grand finale.The William OIe Ntimama Stadium in Narok will play host to the Kenya Primary Schools Sports Association athletic championships from April 21-25. Engin Firat lines up three friendly matches for Harambee StarsBall games Ball games in Maseno School, Kisumu will go underway from August 8-14 before paving way for the Kenya Teachers’ Training Colleges Sports Association (KTCSA) ball games from April 10-15 that are scheduled for Mombasa Teachers’ Training College in Mombasa. Athletic and Paralympic competitions will take place in Muranga Teachers Training College from August 23-27.Special needs Special Needs Education primary and secondary school athletics championships will run concurrently from April 21-26 at the Moi Forest Academy in Nairobi and Nairobi School respectively.Kangaru School in Embu and Kangaru will both host the Special Needs Education Primary School and Secondary School category from August 8-14.The games are making a comeback for the first time since 2020 following the Covid-19 pandemic that saw most sporting actions suspended.
