Fortune Sacco disbanded

It is another sad day for Kenyan football after sponsors of National Super League (NSL) side Fortune Sacco announced the disbandment of the team.Reason? The sponsors are not happy that the team which was promoted to the top league last season, was not allowed to proceed after Football Kenya Federation (FKF) nullified the season.Rather than wait for the matter to be resolved in court, the sponsors decided to pull the plug on the team and end careers of promising players and the loser is local football as about Sh12million that had been dedicated to the team pulled out.According to Fortune Sacco Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Timothy Muthike, when the team was promoted to the top league, it lead to a change in their management structure as they put in a place a new management to run the club.Kisumu County explains why AllStars are struggling financially##NAJAVA_MECA_6988540##“When things changed, we felt there is no need to take part in the lower league as that was not our expectation. We are no longer interested. The excitement of qualification is no longer there and we have since moved on,” he said.He said the players have been informed and will be released to join teams of their choice when the transfer window opens.Muthike further dashed any hopes of a come-back pointing out that they will probably focus on sponsoring local leagues and other sports disciplines.“We had set aside Ksh 12 million for this season. The sponsor cannot release the money after failing to get promotion. We are now looking at supporting either the local leagues or other sports. But we are not coming back as a team either now or in future.”Fortune Sacco are among the teams that were affected when the federation nullified last season’s leagues. Also affected were Administration Police Bomet. The matter is currently in court waiting a decision.
