Tusker defender undergoes surgery, will miss months of action

Tusker FC left back Boniface Onyango on Tuesday underwent surgery on his knee and is expected to be out for “the next few months” the club confirmed.Boniface Onyango’s last involvement in a game came two weeks ago in a 3-0 humiliating defeat to Kenya Police at the Moi International Sports Center (Kasarani).The defender was noticeably missing from last weekend’s matchday squad against Kariobangi Sharks in a game where the Brewers dropped points yet again this season in a 1-1 draw.“It’s a blow to the team,” Tusker head coach Robert Matano said after the club’s training session. “Every player missing from our team through injury is always a blow because all players I have are important. We will miss him.”##NAJAVA_MECA_7007013##Matano however expressed confidence that the “team will work hard to compensate his absence” adding that the players will try to play for him in their upcoming fixture.Tusker’s next game is against the record champions Gor Mahia on Wednesday at the Kasarani main stadium. Saturday saw Patrick Matasi get his place back in goal after being benched for some games this season.Thomas Teka also got a rare against his old team Kariobangi Sharks with Karlos Kirenge dropping to the bench.“We are ready. We have reviewed our last games and corrected our errors,” Matano said in preparation for the Gor Mahia clash. “It is an important game for us. We expect to take the three points home.”
