Jeffers Odongo speaks on his Wazito exit after joining Homeboyz

When Patrick Odhiambo was unveiled as the new coach of Kakamega Homeboyz FC last week, he tagged along his friend Jeffers Odongo as one of his assistants.Up until then, Jeffers was serving as the interim manager of another FKFPL side Wazito FC, now based in Muhoroni. Wazito was facing a rough patch and had gone seven games without a win, and there were rumors of a pending shake up in the team’s technical bench. Inside the Bosongo Derby: A tactical breakdown of Shabana’s narrow loss to Gusii FCYet, Jeffers has revealed to Mozzart Sport that the decision to quit was as a result of a desire to grow.”I needed a new challenge,” the youthful gaffer, who has previously worked at the defunct Agro Chemicals FC, Chemelil Sugar FC and Muhoroni Youth, said.He continued, “He (Odhiambo) is a mentor and a friend. I am a family man and their welfare is my priority.”In the new line-up at Homeboyz Patrick assumes the reins as the head coach, replacing former Kenya international John Baraza, who was dismissed after a string of poor performances.Apart from Jeffers, he will also be assisted by former Bandari and Nzoia Sugar coach Ibrahim Shikanda.Wazito boss downplays Odongo’s depature, set to name new coachExperienced coach Edward Manoah retained his role as Technical Director, while John Waw is the new goalkeeper coach taking over from David Juma.Homeboyz are winless in three games and are currently 9th on log standings with 22 points from 16 games.Their next league outing will at home against strugglers Vihiga Bullets FC on Saturday.
