Since dropping down to the second tier, Vihiga United Football Club have remained a pale shadow of themselves. Losing to teams that three years ago would never have dreamt of matching up against the former Premier League side, not to mention the numerous walkovers they dish out in the National Super League (NSL).United fell to Kenya Police during the 2021/22 play-off matches, whose results condemned them to the second tier—and, as it looks, obscurity.##NAJAVA_MECA_7079889##A massive player exodus followed, with big names opting to feature for other NSL sides; one such name is Kevin Odhiambo, a midfielder par excellence. He pitched camp at Shabana and longs for top-flight football.‘’We didn’t know. What to do after being relegated. There was no direction and very low morale levels. That’s why many people left. I had to leave too, and that’s how I found myself at Shabana,’’ says the diminutive midfielder.He wouldn’t, however, last at Shabana and would head back home to Naivasha half a season later. He cites the need to take a break.‘’I think coming back home for a while helped me put things in perspective. Odhiambo believes his playing days are not over and is keen on bouncing back and showing up in the top flight soon.‘’Vegpro offers us some employment here at the Longonot Horticultural farms, and in return, we represent the team. It’s a good exchange, but if a chance comes my way, I’m sure they’ll be happy to see me rise again,’’ continues the midfielder.Despite a handful of NSL clubs reaching out to him in the transfer window, Odhiambo bides his time, believing something better is on the way.
