MLS trying something unique – substitution time to be introduced

Americans love being special. Different. Although “soccer” is more and more popular there, they have to “tweak” it a little to bring it to how they think it should look.As reported by the media from North America, the board of Major League Soccer decided to introduce a new rule starting from next season – substitution time. What does that mean? A football player for whom the referee raises the board to leave the pitch will have ten seconds to do so. If he takes longer than that, punishment will follow.🚨MLS announced the new “Timed Substitution Rule” to apply in the MLS NEX TPRO (their reserve league). The rule says that the outgoing player has 10 seconds to leave the field; if not, his team will play without one player for one minute. pic.twitter.com/lJkiChk3Gz— Football Talk (@FootballTalkHQ) March 15, 2023 The penalty will be that in the next minute his team will play with one less player on the field: therefore, if the player takes more than ten seconds to get of the pitch, his replacement will have to wait 60 seconds before stepping into play. The idea is to prevent time-stealing during substitutions, which footballers often do, playing silly as if they don’t see that they need to come out of the game, walk slowly to the line, etc. In world football, receiving a yellow card for such abuses is a practice, but in the USA they will take it a step further. God knows what can happen in a minute…##NAJAVA_MECA_7098914##
