England needed just three first-half minutes to settle their first fome game in the Euro 2024 qualifications campaign. A simple Harry Kane finish and a beautiful Bukayo Saka curler gave Gareth Southate’s team a deserved victory at Wembley Stadium.Pre-game ceremony showed England’s solidarity with the people of Ukraine amid the terrible war going on in their country. But there was no mercy on the pitch. After a period of half an hour in which the Three Lions struggled to find their rhythm, the contest was settled with little fuss. First, Harry Kane increased his tally as the country’s best goalscorer to 55 with a simple left-footed volley on the far post, and then Bukayo Saka produced the best moment of the game just three minutes later. The Arsenal winger turned on the ball and took a touch before curling a majestic left-footed projectile into the far corner of Anatolii Trubin’s net.Comfortable 2-0 win for England over Ukraine. Saka superb with an assist for Kane (55th England goal) and a sublime strike in the space of three first-half minutes.🏴 pic.twitter.com/KLHETo8tPN— Ben Jacobs (@JacobsBen) March 26, 2023 England had chances to increase their lead, but Harry Maguire and substitute Conor Galalgher had their meek efforts saved. On the other end, the home team never looked like conceding, and their goalie Jordan Pickford had a quiet evening.Striker Ivan Toney will surely remember this game his whole life as he came off the bench ten minutes before time to make his international debut and become the first Brentford player to play for England since 1939! That was a long wait, but the Bees’ fans can be proud of their team and their players’ individual achievements. The win solifified England’s position at the top of the standings.EURO 2024 – QualifiersSaturday Scotland – Cyprus 3-0 (1-0)/McGinn 21, McTominay 87, 90+3/Armenia – Turkey 1-2 (1-1)/Kabak 10 og – Kokcu 34, Akturkoglu 64/Belarus – Switzerland 0-5 (0-3)/Steffen 4,17,29, Xhaka 62, Amdouni 65/Israel – Kosovo* 1-1 (0-1)/Peretz 56 – Dasa 36 og/Spain – Norway 3-0 (1-0)/Olmo 13, Joselu 84,85/Croatia – Wales 1-1 (1-0)/Kramaric 28 – Broadhead 90+3/Andorra – Romania 0-2 (0-1)/Man 34, Alibec 49/SundayKazakhstan – Denmark 3-2 (0-2)/Zaynutdinov 73 pen, Tagybergen 86, Aymbetov 89 – Hojlund 21, 35/Liechenstein – Iceland 0-7 (0-2)/Olafsson 3, Haraldson 38, Gunnarsson 48, 68, 73 pen, Gudjohnsen 85, Ellertsson 87/England – Ukraine 2-0 (2-0)/Kane 37, Saka 40/Slovenia – San Marino 2-0 (0-0)/Sesko 56, Di Maio 60 og/22.45: (2.65) Slovakia (3.10) B&H (2.85)22.45: (23.0) Malta (10.0) Italy (1.10)22.45: (2.55) N.Ireland (3.05) Finland (3.00)22.45: (15.0) Luxembourg (7.25) Portugal (1.18)*** odds are subject to change ***
