Osimhen opens up about his face operation: ‘I had to rebuild my face’

Victor Osimhen was popular in Naples even before the horrific accident with Milan Skrinar in 2021. But after the operation, he had to wear a protective mask, specially build for his face, in order to play normally and to protect his nose and bones. And this Zoro-like mask brought him even more popularity, as kids on the football grounds started to play with masks, and various Italian bakers started to produce various sweets bearing the image of their player. And the Nigerian international even wore the mask when he didn’t need it anymore.A local bakery in Naples have put on sale cakes to honour 🇳🇬 Victor Osimhen, who has 19 league goals in 20 appearances this season for Napoli. The cake also comes with his protective mask.#JoySports pic.twitter.com/Nf2IKsi8f0— ⬅️ #JoySports (@JoySportsGH) February 27, 2023 Osimhen recently gave an interview for France Football and explained the complex operation and how he felt afterwards.“I was at the bottom of the bucket. I had to rebuild my face. They went through the inside of my mouth, it was not a small intervention. For two months, I no longer felt anything, as if part of my face remained anaesthetized. The side of the mask that protects my wound is super hard. If someone bumps into it, it’s him who hurts. Honestly, I’m no longer afraid” explained Osimhen.Everyone loves Victor Osimhen 🇳🇬 pic.twitter.com/fvf0PJ1OG9— Frank Khalid OBE (@FrankKhalidUK) March 26, 2023 Napoli all but secured their first Serie A title since 1986 Diego Maradona’s team, and the Nigerian played a big part with his 21 goals in 23 matches. He is currently sidelined with a muscular injury sustained on international duty with Nigeria and is facing a race against time to be fit for the Champions League tie with AC Milan. And while the fans are eager to see him on the field, his coach Luciano Spalletti is not so optimistic, even after the player himself declared fit for the duel.‘Racism must end, it will psychologically damage so many kids’“Osimhen wants to play every game, but there are situations that need to be evaluated carefully. He really did run the risk of hurting himself badly and being ruled out for the rest of the season, so the medics were right to make him take some time out. Now we need to see if with a little strong physical activity the pressure on the muscles grows and how he reacts, because so far he has only done some basic jogging. It does become difficult without him, because he has this way of running into space, this physicality, he can draw everyone to him and therefore create the space for his teammates” warned Spalletti.FridaySalernitana – Inter 1-1 (0-1)/Gosens 6 – Candreva 89/Lecce – Napoli 1-2 (0-1)/Di Francesco 52 – Di Lorenzo 18, Gallo 64 og/Milan – Empoli 0-0Saturday13:30: (2.15) Udinese (3.50) Monza (3.70)15:30: (1.45) Fiorentina (4.70) Spezia (8.00)17:30: (1.70) Atalanta (3.80) Bologna (5.60)17:30: (2.40) Sampdoria (3.35) Cremonese (3.25)19:30: (3.10) Torino (3.05) Roma (2.50)19:30: (2.70) Verona (3.05) Sassuolo (2.80)21:45: (2.80) Lazio (3.05) Juventus (2.95)***odds are subject to change***
