Kenyan duo of center referee Peter Waweru Kamaku and assistant referee Gilbert Cheruiyot are in Cairo, Egypt for a five-day Elite Referees’ course organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).The two are part of a team of 70 top match officials drawn from various countries in the continent, with the list broken down to 25 referees, 30 assistant referees, 5 video assistant referees, 5 instructors, and 2 VAR technicians.##NAJAVA_MECA_7180202##While Cheruiyot is one of the most experienced international assistant referees in the country having earned his FIFA badge in 2013, Waweru takes the whistlers’ mantle having earned his international status in 2017.The training is an initiative by the continental body ahead of the knockout phase of CAF Interclub Competitions: the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.The program, which will run until Tuesday next week will focus on sharpening the skills of match officials with special emphases on incidents in the penalty area, offside position, game management, tactical fouls, and handball.
