Third time is the charm – Barca finally scores a goal and wins against Atletico

With every game, Barcelona is closer to the La Liga title and even Atletico Madrid cannot stop Xavi’s men. The irony of today’s match and Barca’s 1-0 win is that the Catalans couldn’t win or even score against below average teams like Getafe and Girona and yet today they managed a win against Atletico. Cholo Simeone’s team is in fantastic form, with 6 consecutive wins before this defeat. Their last non-win game before today was a draw with Real Madrid back in February. It wasn’t a pretty match today at Camp Nou (it usually never is when Atletico is playing), but the visitors had some good chances, and Antoine Griezmann will have a sleepless night, as he missed two of them. But even a defeat won’t be too bad for Atletico, as they couldn’t catch up with Real at the second place anyway, and Sociedad is six points away from them.🎥 FC Barcelona Goal⚽️ Ferran Torres pic.twitter.com/e87ESRtxHC— Barça Spaces (@BarcaSpaces) April 23, 2023 After another disappointing goalless draw at Nou Camp last week (against Getafe), Xavi decided to make some changes so Ferran Torres, Marco Alonso and Frenkie de Jong were introduced to the starting 11, while Jordi Alba, Sergi Roberto and Franck Kessie moved to the bench. Atletico nearly silenced Nou Camp after their former player Antoine Griezmann shook the crossbar in the 46th second of the match. But what looked like a promising half, soon turned into a dull midfield trench battle, with only one good looking chances (Correa in the 35th), before Ferran Torres used the chance given to him by Xavi and scored the winning goal in the 44th minute. Raphinha came from the right flank and brililiantly found former Manchester City forward who was calm enough to give the Catalans the advantage.10 – @FCBarcelona 🔵🔴 have won their 10th game by 1-0 in @LaLigaEn this season. Only three teams in the top-flight history have won more games with this result in a single campaign: Sevilla 2020/21, Atlético de Madrid 2017/18 and Valencia 1988/89 (11 each). There were more substitutes on the pitch than shots on goals from both teams combined. Griezmann missed another good opportunity in the 71st minute but a great Lewandowski – Raphinha combo could have sealed the win for Barcelona. Unfortunately for the home team, the Brazilian couldn’t shoot properly and the ball ended in Oblak’s hands.LA LIGA – ROUND 30FridayEspanyol – Cadiz 0-0SaturdayOsasuna – Betis 3-2 (3-1)/Budimir 6, 11, Moncayola 41 – Miranda 16, Rodriguez 70/Almeria- Ath.Bilbao 1-2 (0-1)/Centelles 90 – Williams 9, Marcos 56/Sociedad – Rayo Vallecano 2-1 (0-0)/Sorloth 59, Lejeune 81(og) – Palazon 57/Valladolid – Girona 1-0 (1-0)/Monchu 24/Real Madrid – Celta 2-0 (1-0)/Asensio 42, Militao 48/SundayElche – Valencia 0-2 (0-2)/Lino 19, Verdu 42(og)Barcelona – Atl.Madrid 1:0 (1-0)/Torres 44/19:30: (2.50) Mallorca (2.90) Getafe (3.70)22:00: (2.85) Sevilla (3.30) Villareal (2.75)***odds are subject to change***
