Wazito maul Sofapaka to inch closer to safety

Wazito have once again underlined their resolve to escape relegation after coming from a goal down to beat Sofapaka 3-2 at the Kasarani Annex on Tuesday afternoon. This is the first time the Muhoroni based club is bagging maximum points in succession from the time the current campaign got off.Having beaten Ulinzi Stars 1-0 last weekend, the Charles Odera-coached side was looking to replicate the same in today’s encounter and that’s exactly what the team did, although the hard way.Wazito, seemed to have saved the best for the second half as a spirited show in the final stanza saw them rally from a goal down and condemn Sofapaka to another defeat as the former champions had lost 3-0 to Bidco United last weekend. The result means that Sofapaka have now gone for five league rounds without a win, a run that draws them closer to the red zone.##NAJAVA_MECA_7208817##Wazito who were enjoying backing from a handful of fans who had turned up for the game, were the better side in the early stages of the game as they dominated possession and asked several questions in the Sofapaka area.Football is a cult. When you see these ones dance you can’t know they are second last on the table…#FKFPLpic.twitter.com/QmmQloTyF2— Murimi Njiru (@muriminjirujnr) April 25, 2023 However, it proved hard to turn possession into goals as Sofapaka defended resolutely and contained the pressure from the visitors well.Sofapaka goalkeeper Kevin Omondi pulled a number of decent saves to keep his side in the game with the experience of David Nshimirimana coming in handy for Batoto ba Mungu as the Burundian worked overtime to see the backline stabilize.Wazito paid off for the missed chances as Sofapaka grabbed the lead in the 26th minute through Rody Manga who headed a corner from Evans Maliachi. The defence Wazito failed to mark the tallest player on the pitch who had an easy time in connecting the ball into the back of the net.The goal wiped off the confidence Wazito were riding on as Sofapaka took control of the proceedings but were unable to double their advantage.Wazito introduced fresh legs before restart hoping to regain control of the game and salvage something from the game. Barely three minutes after centre referee Yasin Badir signalled the start of the second half ,Wazito leveled matters through Stephen Bwire with a thunderous shot few yards from the box. A Tactical Analysis of AFC Leopards vs KCB FC: How the bankers optimal approach earned them a pointA poor clearance by the Sofapaka defence saw the ball land on the path of Bwire who whipped the ball hard to draw his side level.Bwire was not done yet as he scored the second goal for Wazito in the 60th minute although Sofapaka goalkeeper Kevin Omondi played a massive role in seeing the ball past the line.Omondi comfortably gathered a cross from Bwire but back-pedaled a number of steps and hence, crossed the goal line with the ball still in his palms in the glare of the assistant referee who ruled that the entire ball had crossed the line. The goal triggered protests from Sofapaka players who argued that the ball had not crossed the line but match officials’ decision stood.A goalkeeping error on the other hand allowed Sofapaka to score their second in the 70th minute as Wazito custodian Tom Muthomi palmed what looked like an harmless cross by Jacob Addis right past the line.Wazito however, regained their lead in the 72nd minute through Samuel Adebowale who headed home a cross from close range.Wazito held the pressure up to the full Time whistle to secure maximum points.Line upsSofapaka Starting XI: Kevin Omondi, David Nshimirimana, Stephen Okola, Nixon Omondi (Jacob Addis 68), Simon Munala (Eugene Wethuli 68), Sunday Sébastine, Roy Okal, Alex Imbusia (Emmanuel Otieno 62), Ben Stanley Omondi, Rody Manga, Evans Maliachi Unused substitutes: Simon Masaka, Jacob Onyango,,Levian Ochieng, Ronack Otieno Wazito Starting XI: Tom Muthomi, Cliff Otieno,Kelvin Wesonga, Erick Juma, Kevin Onyango, Ibrahim Ochieng, Dennis Amadire (Christopher Raila 46), Robert Onyango,Stephen Bwire, Collins Neto, Clinton Bulimo (Samuel Adebowale 46)Unused substitutes: Darwin Okoth, Kevin Okoth,Oums Ochola,Abubakar Eneji,Stanley Okwemba, Eugene Oduor
