After a frustrating and chaotic outing at Wazito FC in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) on Sunday, Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinstry is quickly shifting his focus to the forthcoming Mashemeji Derby.Battling relegation, Wazito put up a stellar show, thwarting K’Ogalo’s persistent forward forays to pick a point in the game that was laced with crowd trouble at the dreaded Muhoroni Stadium.Notwithstanding the infuriating result, McKinstry hailed his charges for playing well under difficult circumstances, while condemning the manner in which K’Ogalo fans were treated.Slap on the wrist for confessed match fixing trio“It’s a tough venue, but I thought we coped well. It’s a hard-earned point,” the youthful gaffer offered. “We created a lot of chances but we were a little bit unlucky not to score.”An hour to the game as the team bus approached the gate, several fans wanting to enter with the envoy without paying were dispersed by the police who fired teargas at them.McKinstry urged the federation to prioritize fans and their security. “The first priority should be the fans’ experience. Unfortunately, today I don’t think K’Ogalo fans were treated well.”With Tusker edging out Kakamega Homeboyz FC 1-0 in another fixture of the day, Gor Mahia’s four-point lead at the top was sliced to just two, putting pressure on them ahead of the Mashemeji Derby on Sunday 14 May.##NAJAVA_MECA_7235091##“The boys are eager. We’re going in there wanting the three points, but we will have to work for them,” the former Uganda Cranes coach offered. After failing to secure a broadcast partner in the first leg, the Mashemeji Derby, which is a clash between arch rivals Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, has secured a deal with Tanzanian broadcaster Azam TV.The deal will see each of the 18 FKFPL teams get around Ksh 400,000 in media rights. Azam will also broadcast the match between Kariobangi Sharks and Tusker FC on Saturday.
