Akaranga faults Vihiga county government for neglecting sports

Vihiga Bullets Patron Moses Akaranga has slammed the county government for not giving teams in the county any financial support, with all teams in the country currently in financial turmoil.Last weekend, Bullets were relegated to the second tier after losing to FC Talanta at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega. This brought an end to what has been a turbulent season for the club, which struggled to honour its contractual obligations and sometimes had to be bailed out by wellwishers in order to honour league matches.##NAJAVA_MECA_7261890##The last six years have been tough for teams from the county. When Akaranga was governor between 2013 and 2017, he prioritized sports, and Vihiga United, now languishing in the second tier, was one of the best-funded teams in the country. The current administration, however, appears to have different priorities, and all teams from the talent-rich region, including the defending Women’s Premier League champions, Vihiga Queens, are struggling.”The county government has neglected us and Vihiga Queens, Vihiga United, and Luanda Villa, among others,” Akaranga told the Citizen. The veteran politician cum football administrator is open to the idea of the county having one team funded by the county government as opposed to having many teams receive little to no money from the county coffers.”We have no problem even if they come on board to help us create one team and give enough funds to the team. We shall be proud if we can produce a competitive and well-funded group from Vihiga,” he added. On the fate of his team, Akaranga said the plan is to bounce back after a season and hinted that he may get help from some quarters soon.”We shall just be in the NSL for a season because we will regroup ourselves and come back stronger. I want to assure you that some people will come on board and help the team,” he added.Wanyama off the bench as Montreal suffer humiliating defeat in the MLS
