What a comeback! Sheffield Wednesday booked a place at Wembley despite losing the first leg 4-0

There are comebacks, and there is THIS! Sheffield Wednesday beat Peterborough on penalties to book a place in the EFL League One play-off final at Wembley, and they’ve done so despite losing the first semi-final leg 4-0! The legendary Hillsborough stadium has seen many things, good and bad, over three centuries, but this was the craziest night.Wednesday lost the first leg 4-0 but they wouldn’t surrender. They needed early goals to make their fans believe and they got two in the opening 25 minutes thanks to a Michael Smith penalty and a Lee Gregory finish. Suddenly, the game was on.Reece James pulled the hosts to within one of Peterborough’s aggregate lead with 20 minutes to go and Hillsborough’s roof came off when Liam Palmer made it four with the last kick of normal time.FROM FOUR DOWN SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY FORCE EXTRA TIME!!!!!!!! Once again, the Owls faced a challenge, but they’ve found a way. Dan Butler hit the bar late on and Jack Hunt made it 5-1 from the follow-up to take the tie into a penalty shoot-out.The blue-and-whites had the momentum on their side after a fantastic comeback, and they hit all five of their spot-kicks — unlike Peterborough — to book their place in the final at Wembley Stadium. They will face either Bolton or Barnsley for a place in the EFL Championship.##NAJAVA_MECA_7268358##The Owls’ captain Barry Bannan was proud of the win, but the former Aston Villa and Crystal Palace midfielder said that it wouldn’t mean much unless he and his teammates perform well at Wembley on Monday, 29 May.”Everybody wrote us off, but we know what we’ve got in that changing room. Everybody said we couldn’t do it. We’ve watched comebacks all week. It’s the greatest game I’ve ever played in. We showed we’re made of stern stuff. We’re only halfway, but it feels like we’ve won it tonight.”Bannan dedicated his side’s comeback victory to manager Darren Moore after the racist abuse to which he was subjected to following their first-leg loss.”What he’s done in the last week has been unbelievable. To turn around this mindset of the players. He had a massive job to do to turn this around and he’s done unbelievable. I’m so proud of him and the way he’s handled this week, after the racism he received as well that shouldn’t be anywhere near football never mind a manager that’s won 96 points this season, so that one’s for him.”🔊 Listen to this… pic.twitter.com/5d77tkV076— Sheffield Wednesday (@swfc) May 18, 2023 Football is magic!
