Kitale Queens are breaming with confidence ahead of the return of the prestigious Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom.Justin Okiring, the team’s coach, is confident of defending the title they won in 2019 but has a one big hurdle to overcome, getting his players back in time for the tournament. The tactician says most of his dependable players are in school and most of the institutions have expressed interest in playing in the current edition.”I have players in St Brigid’s Girls High School, Butere High amongst other schools and the challenge is most of these schools also want to register for the tournament. However I am very confident of defending my title if I get the players,” Okiring told Mozzart Sport. We cannot afford to underrate any opponents. I am expecting very stiff competition from all the opponents but special mention to the likes of Waa and Wiyeta Girls – those are never easy opponents,” he said. He also lauded the tournament for nurturing and exposing talented players from the grassroots level. We have so much talent that goes unnoticed but Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom plays a very vital role in exposing them to scouts and even taking them to Europe for camps. This really changes the lives of these kids. Even those that don’t make it to play professional football will never be the same again after such exposure. They are motivated to work hard and have a better life.” He said. Registration for this year’s edition of the tournament is currently ongoing with the preliminaries expected to kick off in Western Kenya on the weekend of 3-4 in June. The National finals will be played between 12-14 January 2024.
