Sheffield Wednesday beat their Yorkshire neighbours Barnsley with a last-gasp added-time winner to earn promotion to the EFL Championship. It was one of those games at Wembley Stadium where you wait for the penalty shoot-out with no goals to report. But Josh Windass scored a diving header in the last seconds to round off a remarkable season for the Owls.Windass’ goal is something that clearly runs in the family. His father Dean did something similar in the Championship play-off final in 2008. Barnsley were forced to play for most of the game with ten men after Adam Phillips was sent off for a bad tackle just after the half-time break. The Tykes fought bravely, but their succumbed to Wednesday’s attacks just as penalties looked certain. For most of the campaign, they looked certain to secure one of the top two places in the EFL League One, but a slump in form at the end of the season saw them finish third – leaving them to navigate their way through the play-offs.
